A most attractive gold coloured (not HM) brooch by H J Wilm, court jewellers, Berlin. Diam 35mm including projections, the field of punched design with separate overlaid crown and V and A monogram, the "V" in blue enamel. All enclosed by a beaded rim set at 6 points with a small pearl. The reverse of "porthole" style and set with a dark grey grained stone, brooch pin and 'keep' chain. GVF or better, in its original maker's case, gold embossed with the crowned V and A monogram. A charming item Plate 4. Note: This is undoubtedly a personal presentation from Auguste Victoria 1858-1921 (nee Auguste Viktoria of Schleswig Holstein) the consort of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
A pearlware pottery tall mug, late 18th Century, the cylindrical body painted in underglaze blue with a chinoiserie figure seated in a landscape beside a pagoda building, applied with a loop handle, height approx 16cm (minor hairlines) together with three Minton Best Body New Stone footed dishes.
An 18ct gold and diamond set three stone ring, mounted with circular cut diamonds in heart shaped surrounds in a twist-over design, a gold ring, mounted with five cultured pearls, and a foliate spray to the side, two gem set rings, and a Ceylonese vari-coloured gem set pendant designed as an elephant's mask, with a neckchain.
Hexagonal carved stone well-head, carved in relief with alternating shields, of lion rampant and three lions passant, all topped with a crown, 34" diameter, 36" high, with later added cast iron frame, (total height, 91"). Reputedly made up from architectural stonework from the Palace of Westminster. This would originally have formed part of the Gothic Revival work of Wyatt on the Houses of Parliament around 1805 and was probably removed following the disastrous fire of 1834 and the subsequent rebuilding by Sir Charles Barry. It is known that prominent political figures of the day including Sir Robert Peel were given statues and architectural fixtures. . Provenance: removed from a private residence in Guildford, Surrey. The family remember this as having been in situ for very many years.
