Dissertation, München 2008, S. 175 Die Arbeit ist im Werkverzeichnis "Der Steinbildhauer Karl Prantl: Werkkatalog 1950-2000" unter der Nummer 272 angeführt. Karl Prantl hat mit seinem bildhauerischen Werk die österreichische Bildhauerszene nachhaltig geprägt. Die meisten seiner Kollegen, die in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts tätig sind, stehen in der Nachfolge Fritz Wotrubas und einer abstrakt-kubischen Gestaltungsweise, während Prantl sich eher an internationalen Künstlern wie Constantin Brancusi oder Henry Moore orientiert. Mit seinen reduzierten Arbeiten steht er der Minimal Art nahe und die Art und Weise, wie er mit seinem Werk den Umgebungsraum bestimmt und verwandelt, verbindet ihn mit der Land Art, deren Grundprinzip eines „Einswerdens von Kultur und Natur“ (https://www.parnass.at/news/kunstgeschichte-kompakt-land-art, zugegriffen am 23.8.2020) auch Prantls Arbeiten bestimmt. So prägt und verändert der mit über zwei Metern Länge beeindruckende Stein „Zur Meditation“ sein Umfeld und erfüllt es mit einer Aura der Ruhe und Harmonie. Am Stein gibt es „Erlebnisse des Haptischen und Optischen: Steine werden meditiert, berührt, betastet“ (Karl Prantl. Steine 1978-1980, Ausstellungskatalog, Erker-Galerie, St. Gallen 1980, S. 3), aber sie haben auch Formen, Adern, Maserungen, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte gebildet haben, die es aufzuspüren und verstärken gilt und die Karl Prantl dem Betrachter in seinen Arbeiten im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes „begreiflich“ machen möchte. Die Meditationssteine laden dazu ein, sich auf Material und Form einzulassen. Der langgezogene, schwarze Granit ist an der Oberseite mit einer Perlenschnur versehen, die wie ein Rückgrat die gesamte Länge des schmalen, als Rechteckform herausgearbeiteten Steines entlangläuft. Man kann tastend oder mit den Augen dem schnurgeraden Verlauf dieser kleinen, aneinandergereihten Kugeln folgen und sie sich ins Unendliche fortgesetzt denken. Sie durchbrechen das Monolithische des Steines, bringen durch die Lichtbrechungen an ihrer Oberfläche einen Rhythmus aus Helligkeit und Schatten in das nachtschwarze Material.
