A Chinese jade hair ornament, bianfang,Qing dynasty (1644-1911), of elongated flat form, each end carved with peach or finger citrons, the stone in a pale celadon tone,15.8cm longBianfang were the primary hair ornaments worn by women of the Manchu aristocracy, who typically arranged their hair in the distinctive two-bundle style (liangba tou - 'two bundle head' or 'two-fisted head'). They served as additional adornment and functioned as supports for bundled hair. After first dividing a woman's long hair into two large bundles, the attendant would then use the ornament to fix the hair in place. During the late Qing period, black satin was used in lieu of actual hair to produce the two-bundle look, and the ornament functioned to stabilise the attached satin bundles and base of the hair. Many of these ornaments were fashioned from jade, tortoiseshell and other materials. Model 1908 Baden Regiment 111 Greatcoat, a good example of the 08 depot issued enlisted mans service greatcoat of wartime manufacture. Stone grey colour, two angled pockets with flaps, all crown Prussian buttons, some minor period stitch repairs, no undue moth damage, good nap to cloth. The lining is marked ‘B.A.XIV’ with a clear date ‘1915’ with further regimental marking of Baden Regiment ‘J.R.111’ with further date ‘1915’. Shoulder boards minus.
Very Rare WW1 German Stone Grey Enlisted Mans Combat Trousers, good large size set of the stone grey model 1907/10 trousers. Nap of cloth superb, no moth damage, all original fly buttons fitted, all of the waist/braces buttons have been removed, heavy duty cotton twill lining, profusely stamped with army corps marking ‘XVIII’ with a clear date of ‘1915’. One large brown stain only to the interior left hand pocket bag. A magnificent set and one of the rarest elements of the Imperial German soldiers uniform to obtain.
