A large and impressive 18th century oil on canvas of a young boy robed in fur, holding a cane cross, with a lamb sat at his feet. The dark foreground shows naturalistic scenery with the background depicting a stone built castle. The painting is unsigned with no markings to the back of the canvas. Unframed the painting measures approximately 93cm x 112cm.

EDITORS, SUCCESSORS TO GOUPIL & CO. PARIS LONDON THE HAGUE. Stone was a British painter and illustrator best known for his depictions of garden parties, literary scenes, and sentimental portraits. Stone also produced illustrations for books by Charles Dickens and Anthony Trollope. Most of his works have been engraved, and medals were awarded to him at exhibitions in all parts of the world. His works are held in the collections of the Tate Gallery in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and many others. According to The Art Journal, Volume 58 (1999), "Autumn Fruits" have had a considerable sale as engravings. Presented with an antique linen matte with gilt trim in the giltwood frame. An 18ct three stone opal and diamond ring, the three oval opal cabochons interspaced with two small round diamonds, total weight of diamonds estimated approx. 0.24cts, with scrolled gallery and plain band stamped '18', size L, (4.3g). All opals are abraded but still display good play of colour.Wear to mount, shows signs of being worn alongside another ring.Some wear and light abrasions to band.

All emeralds are chipped (slightly noticeable with the eye when in strong light).

One stone has a tiny chip to table facet edge.Another stone has very small blemish to surface.All are lightly abraded to facet edges.Light wear throughout consistent with occasional use.
