SHIP & CASTLE INN, PENZANCE. indenture dated 1790 John Stone to Rev Edward Giddy £500 mortgage for Ship & Castle in Chapel St; plus lease for same; plus a lease for assembly rooms (Union Hotel) at Ship & Castle complete with pen and ink plan on reverse 1791 good, signed by Richard Branwell; plus another lease to do with the Ship & Castle dated 1784.
A collection of jewellery to include: 18ct gold three stone diamond ring, size 'O' uk; a 22ct gold wedding band, size 'O' uk; a 22ct gold and star sapphire gent ring, size 'V' uk; an 18ct gold signet ring, with engraved initials; an Edwardian double row pearl necklace, a lady's 'Rotary' gold cased wristwatch, cased; a silver cased open face pocket watch and further paste jewellery.
Eighteenth to nineteenth century foiled back green paste pendants to include one large oval faceted paste pendant with gold tone metal backing and one faceted pear shaped paste pendant with three suspended hollow tear drop terminations. In good to fair condition. The oval pendant's backing is discoloured where gold coloured coating has worn away, also showing scratching and slight denting. The foiling effect appears to be wrinkled or split/scratched in one place and this can be seen without magnification through the stone. The facets and facet edges are showing abrasion and the metal to the collet setting is discoloured and dark, it appears the gold colour has completely worn from this area, the loop is split-length of pendant inc hoop approximately 3cm. The other pendant is again showing discolouration where gold colouring has worn , the hollow suspenders are dented and discoloured, the green stone is a little dull where dirt has gathered at back of foiling effect? Stone showing some abrasion to facet edges-length 4.5cm.
Six items of paste costume jewellery to include a nineteenth century white paste bow and flower design pendant brooch with three pear drop cluster suspenders, a white and green paste cluster bar brooch, a pair of blue paste screw back stud earrings, a square cut green paste brooch, a floral white paste openwork brooch and a single green paste bow design earring. Items in general good condition. The pendant brooch is not marked other than with what appears to be the number 7 to the reverse, the white metal backing is showing wear and tear/discolouration. The pin and clasp of the brooch could have been added at a later date and there are signs of repair to one of the dropper suspenders. All the stones are in closed back settings and are old cut, they may have been foiled back, some stones are now discoloured, measures approximately 6.5 by 4cm. The square cut paste is set in white metal, the pin and clasp is in working order but the pin is very close to the back of the stone, measures 2cm by 2cm. The bar brooch cluster is yellow metal to reverse of brooch and cluster and the front of the bar has a layer of white metal to the top, there is a rectangular green paste to the centre of the cluster (possibly foiled), surrounded by ten old cut pastes and a further border of green pastes, measures 8cm, pin relatively straight and clasp
Mid to late nineteenth century Austro-Hungarian Renaissance style silver gilt, garnet, green stone, blister pearl and enamel pendant with blister pearl and cherub suspender leading to a central female figure surrounded by gem set, mother of pearl and enamel decoration leading to two blister pearl droppers and enamel termination, and a matching necklet of sixteen floral panels with a garnet and green stone central cluster surrounded with enamel floral detail. Pendant dimensions 10cm by 5cm. Necklet length 39cm (15 inches). With fitted case (AF). In good to fair general condition. The silver pendant is showing wear and tear and gilt effect only really visible to the decoration at the back of the pendant. The suspended termination is missing what should be probably another blister pearl. Some gem set detail on one side of the pendant is loose. Some of the stones are missing and not all match, a lot of the enamel detail is worn or chipped. The necklet is in better condition, it has a coffin shaped stamp to necklet clasp but is fairly worn, also stamped NA. On some of the panels the enamel detail is chipped, the metal is showing wear and tear, clasp in working order. The leather fitted case is damaged and in two parts, black velvet inner and silk inner worn and silky material has split.
A collection of gold, gold plated and metal jewellery to include a ruby and diamond point bar brooch (one diamond missing), a 9ct gold heart shaped locket, a gold plated Art Deco style rectangular locket, a gold stone and feather design pendant, a tri-colour heart shaped locket with floral decoration and other items. Approximately 25 items (several AF).
Fifteen items to include an enamel and diamond point ring (centre stone missing and AF) and thirteen loose rectangular jet links and a buckle style link (AF). In fair to poor condition. Ring shank appears to be gold, showing wear and tear/discolouration. Missing one diamond chip and central stone, enamel also very worn/chipped/discoloured, very dirty to front and back, ring size M/N. The rectangular links are varying sizes but appear to be a set, some have fractured corners, the buckle link is also chipped-all links are fairly dirty.
A collection of mourning and other jewellery to include a garnet and agate rectangular brooch, a hair design circular pendant, a seed pearl and enamel oval brooch, a coral and seed pearl circular brooch with curved outer edging and a turquoise and seed pearl oval brooch. Nine items. All in fair condition. Garnet and agate brooch appears to have had pendant loop and pin/clasp reattached or added at a later date, likely that agate replaced the original central stone. Enamel and seed pearl brooch stamped '9ct', has empty back/photo panel, centre cluster may have been added at a later date or the brooch would have had a covering, measures 2.2cm. Another brooch with central foiled back(?) yellow stone, metal border and back showing wear and tear including crack/denting, pin is bent and loose in clasp, measures 2.2cm. Back and front photo locket stamped 'ROLLED GOLD', only has case cover to one side, showing wear and tear and discolouration, wear to pendant loop, measures 4.5cm. Hair, enamel and seed pearl brooch missing pin and clasp, hair appears to have slipped out of place a little, measures 3.4cm, back metal showing wear and tear, some dents. A collection of jewellery to include a silver, marcasite and garnet set hinged bangle, a silver Maltese cross set with a blue paste stone and on a fancy link chain, a silver and ceramic pendant with a fancy link chain, an articulated teddy bear pendant on a curb link chain, two bead and metal necklets, a Rotary watch and two other bracelets. Large bag containing a quantity of assorted costume jewellery, watches and silver plated pieces to include a ladies' 9ct gold watch on rolled gold bracelet, paste pendant and chain marked Hollywood, silver and stone set cross and a pair of enamelled metal cuff links with the slogan "Guinness is Good for You" over a pint of Guinness and the backs with an enamelled harp and the words "Guinness Extra Stout Dublin and London".
Five stickpins, to include a turquoise set turtle design stickpin, a carved coral clenched fist design stickpin, a coin set stickpin and two others (AF). The stickpins are in good/poor condition. The clenched fist of the one stickpin looks dirty and the pin is slightly bent out of shape. The coin set stickpin is in good condition. The turquoise set stickpins are quite seriously tarnished, there is a stone missing from the one stickpin, the other stickpin looks quite tarnished and dirty.
Three stickpins, to include a heart shape moonstone set stickpin, a single claw set opal set stickpin and a seven stone eight cut diamond cluster set stickpin. All three stickpins are in generally good condition. The opal has a lovely play of colour, with quite a lot of pink with blues and greens, there is some tarnishing to the outer collet of the moonstone and minor scratches to the gemstone. The diamonds in the cluster are dull and there is some tarnishing to the pin.
Seven stickpins to include a gold stone set stickpin, a 9ct gold stickpin depicting a bugle, a seed pearl set stickpin, a stickpin depicting a bird's claw holding a shell bead and three others. The stickpins are in fair condition. There are general scratches to all of the stickpins. There is serious tarnishing to some of the stickpins, there is some damage to the enamel. Some of the claws appear a little lose, some items are in need of repair.
Five items to include an ivory and cut steel hand design clip, a banded agate and metal stamp, a chalcedony set retractable pencil, an ornately decorated eye glass and one other item. In good to fair condition. The ivory clip is showing signs of ageing and discolouration and is in need of a good clean, two of the fingers have chipped, measures 10cm in length. The eye glass could again do with a clean, the metal decoration is showing some wear and tear and the glass is a little loose in the setting, measures approximately 7.5cm. The stamp metal is showing wear and tear and discolouration, the agate is a little loose at the base and the agate handle has some external cracks to it, measures approximately 7cm in length. The pencil is engraved with E from L to the centre, the metal is showing some wear and tear and discolouration, length 5.5cm, the stone at end has slipped in setting and pencil has a loop to centre. The other item appears to be a broken perhaps stamp and is showing wear and tear and some of the gold colour metal has worn away-length 4.5cm.
A late 19th Century Ashworths Real Stone China part dinner service, printed and painted with a central study of the upper body of a naked man holding a club and wearing a band in his hair within reserved trellis inner border and outer border printed and painted with chrysanthemums, Oriental style panels and gilt foliate scrolls on a cobalt ground, numbered 3875, printed Royal arms and impressed Real Stone china, comprising, dinner, side and tea plates, soup plates, dessert plates, soup tureen and sauce tureens, serving platters and comports.
