Together with a commission dating from the Napoleonic Wars era: 'Commission to John Lindsay Gent. as Ensign in the Renfrewshire Militia. Dated 25th April 1808'; signed by William Macdowall (Lieutenant of the County of Renfrew) and bearing his wax seal. Another Georgian vellum document relating to 'Lieut. John Lindsey', Musselburgh, 22nd February 1811, and a handwritten paper document recording the erection of a memorial stone to the memory of James Hall D.D. from the United associate Congregation, Broughton Place.
