SET OF TWELVE CHINA TRADE WATERCOLORS. An exceptional series of river landscapes painted in gouache on rice or pith paper. A variety of scenes include rice paddies, stone bridges and walls, small boats and junks, and tall pagodas. Mounted with pale blue silk ribbon on laid paper. Originally bound in albums, these pages have been individually matted with modern gilt frames. Some damage, mostly around the edges (one has a pinprick and one has a tear in the image). The laid paper has been trimmed slightly. Painted image borders are 5 1/2h. 9w. Framed. 11 1/4h. 14 1/2w.

The couple in the sleigh are supposed to be Nathaniel Currier and his wife, Laura. Wide margins with minor darkening around the edges. Glued down with a faint stain in the bottom margin. 23 1/2h. 31 3/4w. Framed. 26h. 34w.
WOODHALL MANSION, NEAR COCKERMOUTH AN INTERESTING STONE GARDEN WATER FEATURE FOUNTAIN having a square base, each side with a demi-lune well, the central circular well with four cornucopia vases each terminating with grotesque animal heads, circular well 178cm diamter (70in); base 340cm x 340cm plus wells (134in x 134in) *** The feature was removed from Woodhall Mansion in 1950 when the property was demolished by a then Penrith builder who installed it into his own garden, where it has been ever since. The lot will be sold in situ (buyer to remove) and may be viewed by prior appointment with the Auctioneers.
