ROWLING, J. K. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, an "Uncorrected Proof Copy" of the first novel in the Harry Potter series [pre-dating even the first edition], octavo, printed card wrappers in yellow & black, London: Bloomsbury, 1997. All requisite issue points present: the title page gives the author as 'J. A Rowling'; the copyright page states 'Joanne Rowling'; full number line, '10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1'; '1 wand' appears twice in the list on p. 53. Internally very well-preserved with organic, creamy toning to the pages, the edges of text-block with a few pale marks, a few page-corners with light fold-lines, card wrappers with some light handling marks and a few faint surface scuffs, one heavier scuff at front-edge of spine, the wrappers appearing untidily bound (which is in keeping with the uncorrected proofs), shelf-lean, the extreme corners faintly rubbed, some very light creasing to corners. Very scarce NB. This is the first appearance in print of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. 'An unconfirmed print-run of 200 copies is generally accepted.' [Errington, AA1 (a)]

Octavo, paperback, complete with all requisite issue points of a true first printing: full number line on copyright page, '10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1'; p. 53 with '1 wand' appearing twice in the list; the misspelling 'Philospher's' on rear cover; 'Wizardry and Witchcraft' [rather than 'Witchcraft and Wizardry'] on rear cover; no space between 'Taylor' and '1997' on copyright page. A superb and very well-preserved example with usual toning to page edges/margins, one folded page corner, a few other corners with incredibly faint folds, one marginal nick to final leaf, a couple of tiny marginal nicks elsewhere, binding tight & square, covers excellent, bold & bright, one incredibly faint crease at front lower-corner, the extreme corner of same lightly bumped, miniscule knocks to the absolute extreme edges. An exceptional example This book is being sold on behalf of the RSPCA who have kindly provided the following statement for inclusion in our catalogue entry: "All proceeds from the auction go to the Animal Centre of RSPCA Isle of Wight Branch. London: Bloomsbury, 1997 Provenance: A state-funded secondary school in North-West London is auctioning this cast-signed copy of Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, which is believed to have been a gift from an ex-student who appeared in the film series as a child actor. The school would like to improve the grounds for current students by creating a small quiet garden, installing native plants and a natural seating area (proceeds from the sale of this book will be used for this purpose)

Philosopher's Stone is internally very well-preserved, clean & bright, almost appears unread, the author's signature has very slightly faded over time, the covers are bold & vibrant with light handling creases around corners and faintly along spine, lightly bumped & rubbed at corners/extremities, very slightly discoloured at spine. Chamber of Secrets is in similar condition, the covers a little more creased, the base of spine more heavily bumped with some splitting at lower joints (2) Provenance: Signed in Edinburgh, 1998, where they were purchased for the vendor by their uncle
