Basil Nightingale (1864-1940), A pair of watercolours with pencil annotations, Racehorses - Hermit and Ormonde, signed, In later glazed frames, 36cm x 53cm (2) Hermit reads: Mr Henry Chaplins sensational Derby Winner Hermit 1867 - snowstorm day. He was a small (15h 1 1/5) long low horse - not vicious - but exceedingly vivacious and mischievous - apart from classic honours on the flat, his blood has done wonders with Grand National in the part 25 years - a sketch from life when at the stud 13 years old, when my father painted him life size for Mr Chaplin. Minting, Saraband and The Bard of his year were good enough to give a stone to the average Derby winner and he ? them like hacks. When a bad "roarer" he "lost" a great handicap horse like Bendigo - and gave weight and "lost" the St Leger winner Kilwarlin. He also worked for the EU Monitoring Mission based in Zagreb covering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and the Republic of Macedonia. Larger stone with visible inclusions. Both old-cut stones with knife edge girdles with small nibbles/chips. The larger stone drawers a noticeable amount of colour. Ring in good condition. No hallmarks.

A collection of ten Chinese snuff bottles comprised of three porcelain examples, two glass examples and four resin examples, the largest 8.2cm high (with lid), the smallest 5.4cm high CONDITION REPORT: Blue and white porcelain bottles: Condition good. 66mm and 73mm high. Porcelain bottle decorated with birds: Top ground down, with wear to the decoration. There is a small chip to the foot and the mark is worn, 55mm high. Porcelain bottle decorated with figures: Some wear to the decoration, 68mm high. Carved bottle: Very small nibbles to the top rim of the bottle, 82mm high inc coral stopper. Painted glass bottle: Chips to foot rim which have been ground down. Decoration worn. One tiny nibble to the outer top rim. Wooden spoon a possible replacement with string fixing to lid, 78mm high including green stone stopper. The set of four bottles are in good order apart from the two broken tops, 73mm high including stopper where present.
