Forgeries.- Chatterton (Thomas) Poems, supposed to have been written at Bristol, by Thomas Rowley, and others, in the Fifteenth Century, first edition, first issue with c4 advertisement leaf uncancelled (but torn for cancellation and laid down), engraved plate, errata leaf at end, bookplates/labels of Newton Charles Ogle of Kirkley (and ink signatures of earlier Ogles) and Hugh Walpole, contemporary calf, spine gilt with green morocco label, a little rubbed, joints repaired, [Rothschild 589], for T.Payne and Son, 1777; another copy, first edition, second issue with c4 cancelled (omitting "and were probably composed by him"), engraved plate, errata leaf, book-label of John Drinkwater, original boards, uncut, a little rubbed and stained, rebacked, for T.Payne and Son, 1777; Miscellanies in Prose and Verse, first edition, half-title, with engraved frontispiece (often missing) and plate, advertisement leaf at end, occasional spotting or soiling, original wrappers of printer's waste, uncut, soiled and frayed, rebacked, for Fielding and Walker, 1778, the last two John Drinkwater's copies with his ink signature, pencil note and small gilt book-label on front pastedown or endpaper, [Bibliotheca Fictiva 414, 415 & 419]; and 3 other editions of the first (3rd edition 1778, fourth edition 1782 & fifth edition 1794), all with the bookplate of Stuart Schimmel by Reynolds Stone, 8vo & 4to (6)⁂ An excellent group of Chatterton's famous Rowley Poems, all from the forgery collection of Stuart Schimmel. The poems were a celebrated literary hoax written by the young Chatterton, who later committed suicide aged seventeen.

A five stone diamond and sapphire ring, stamped '18ct' and 'Plat', the two old brilliant cuts totalling approximately 0.4 carats, finger size L, 3g grossCondition Report: There are no scratches or chips to any of the stones. One of the diamonds has some inclusions that can only be seen under a glass.
