Franz Werner von Tamm (German, 1658-1724)A Still life of flowers in a vase on a stone ledge, with fruit and a guinea pig signed lower left on the stone ledge 'frans. v. tam. fe. Ao 1715' oil on canvas 39.5 x 45.5cmCONDITIONOil on canvas which has been lined. The lining has caused the texture of the canvas to be more evident in the paint layer than it would originally have been. The paint layer is in a good, stable condition overall. There is some wear to the paint layers. Areas of overpaint are mainly confined to the background. The overpaint has slightly darkened over time. The varnish layer is clear and even. An almost identical version of the present picture of slightly different larger (44.5 x 51cm) dimensions which was apparently unsigned, unlike this work, was at Sotheby's in 21st April 1993, lot 220.
