A late 19th century album kept by Nurse Ethel Muriel Swingles, containing good pen and ink and pencil drawings at the beginning with the majority of the contents recording life in the hospital through many photographs of nursing and medical staff, photographs of wards, operating theatres and the laying of the foundation stone of the new hospital building. Much original written material generally entertaining satirical verse by nursing staff about their colleagues, medical staff and the hospital in general. Nurse Swingles was born in 1878 in Rugby and studies at St Bartholomews from November 1901 to October 1904. She remained for a further year till 1905 when she took a post in Singapore. On her return she works at the Department of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool. Some of the later entries in the album relate to these locations. The album has been rebound and is on sound condition.
An interesting early 19th century hallmarked silver pair cased open face pocket watch, the polychrome enamel dial decorated with a landscape depicting three horses pulling a cart and a windmill automaton, the gilt fusee movement with verge escapement and finely pierced and engraved cock piece signed JN Stone, Aylesbury, hallmarked for London 1836 (hairline and losses to dial) (Illustrated).

A Georgian gold and citrine single stone ring, dated 1770, the foil backed cut cornered citrine claw set in a closed backed cut down collet with a locket underside, on a plain tapering shank, the collet and shank engraved ‘ J H Sherwood AR ob 10 Aug: 1770AE: 33’, finger size N **condition report: Overall light wear commensurate with age and use. Slight nicks to one edge of citrine, foiling good. Slight wear to the shank. No signs of damage or repair.
A Georgian diamond single stone ring, circa 1780, the oval cut diamond, approximately 0.24 carats, claw set in a fluted closed back silver cut down collet, above gold trifurcated shoulders applied with a leaf and twisted gold detail, on a plain shank, finger size K **condition report: Overall wear commensurate with age and use. No chips to the diamond, slight nibbling to the mount edges. Slight wear to the shank. No signs of damage or repair.
A mid Victorian gold, enamel, diamond and half pearl pendant and earring suite, circa 1870, the horse shoe pendant with a central star burst set with a cushion shaped old brilliant cut diamond within a surround of rose cut diamonds, inset within a blue enamel bosse and a graduated border of half pearls, with a glazed locket to the back, with a rose cut diamond three stone suspension loop, 6cm long, attached to a fancy curb link chain, the en suite drop earrings with glazed locket backs and later screw fittings, 5cm long, all in a red leather bound Harman & Co Ltd & Lambert fitted case
A late Victorian diamond and pearl brooch/pendant, circa 1890, designed as an Art Nouveau swag, the central cushion shaped old brilliant cut diamond claw set above a 5mm pearl within an open work scrolled mount of old cut and rose cut diamonds, with a 5.5mm slightly baroque pearl suspended beneath, mounted in gold backed silver with a removable brooch fitting and rose cut diamond three stone suspension loop, 5.9cm long overall. Please note the pearls are untested and unwarranted as natural pearls
