A DIAMOND SINGLE-STONE RING | MAUBOUSSINThe brilliant-cut diamond weighing approximately 3.73cts within collet-setting, to a plain polished gold hoop, mounted in 18K gold, signed Mauboussin, numbered, with maker's pouch, ring size I½ Accompanied with a photocopy of the 'Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris' report stating that the diamond tested is 3.73cts, F colour and SI clarity. Report number 113.311, dated November 30th 1982. Condition Report: According to this private client, the stone at the centre is the original stone that was bought at Mauboussin along with the certificate. Client could only find a photocopy of the report which was attached with her insurance valuation at the time.As for the report, my approximate measurements while the diamond is mounted seem to be in accordance with the measurements stated on the certificate. I cannot confirm the colour due to the yellow mount but the stone appears to white. Estimated clarity: SI1 due to 3 minor inclusions visible with 10x magnification (one visible with naked eye once identified with the loupe for a trained eye). The fluorescence appears to me faint/medium blue which does not affect the appearance of the stone.The mount was repolished before it was brought to me - minor signs of wearTwo beads are inside the hoopSignature + 750 + serial number located in the inside of the hoop (serial number15067)Total gross weight approx. 10g

Van Cleef & Arpels became inspired by the zodiac symbolism in the 1970’s when they were displayed on discs of stone set in twisted-gold edges with the various symbols and constellations cast in textured yellow gold. Astrology was a popular topic in the 1970’s explained the house’s patrimonial Director Lisa MacDonald. MacDonald eluded that many people were feeling very connected to nature, travel and interpreting themselves spiritually which astrology was representative of all of those things. She continued that “there is a product card from that year for a tiny charm representing Gemini, with sapphire stars in two human figures in silhouette.” The demand for these symbols were seen in many different industries, especially the film industry. The enamel plague/under-bezel is fitted by screws which are visible through the pierced panel, and have some slight enamel loss around the screw fitting. The principal brilliant-cut diamond has at least two small nicks to the girdle, observed under 10x magnification, and will need the claws re-tipping to be worn with confidence, the stone being loose in its setting. Three antique rings, comprising a shell cameo ring, a turquoise and diamond five stone ring and a cultured half-pearl quatrefoil cluster ring, all mounted in gold, ring sizes M½, R, and F½ respectively. £150-£200 --- Condition Report General surface wear commensurate with age and use. An 18ct gold opal and diamond five stone ring, claw set, the three cabochon opals spaced by old-cut diamonds, hallmarked for Birmingham 1903 and two further 19th century rings, first ring size O. (3) £600-£800 --- Condition Report First ring: opals rather rubbed, but good play of colour. Diamonds lively. Mount in good condition for age. Two rings: Both worn, with heavy wear to facets.

Romano-British: A 4th century gold finger ring, the hoop formed of two beaded filigree wire bands separating to form twin spiral shoulders, with small globules to the centres, supporting the bezel of square form with flat back plate, the outer roped flange border with inner strip mounted below the slightly cabochon green hardstone, (ring compressed). £2,400-£3,000 --- Provenance: This ring was discovered by a metal detectorist at Hambleton, North Yorkshire, in 2022. It has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database Ref: YORYM-B6A9F2 and disclaimed as Treasure. This ring is comparable to rings from the Thetford Hoard (No. 10 and 12) and possibly from the same workshop. Chrysoprase is a variety of chalcedony of apple green colour. It was used by both the Greek and Romans as gemstones but examples are rare. Chrysoprase was the tenth foundation stone of the celestial Jerusalem. (Apocrypha, XXI v. 20) and one of the twelve sacred gemstones listed in Revelations XX.. According to a PMI test on an XRF Analyzer, the ring is testing as 96.35% gold alloyed with silver and traces of iron and copper. Condition Report The ring has been compressed in the ground but is intact with the green hardstone undamaged. Weight 7.89gm.
