Spanish school of the XIX century, following Andalusian models of the XVII century."Young man in the garden".Oil on antique canvas.Frame of the eighteenth century, repainted.Measurements: 83 x 109 cm; 94,5 x 120 cm (frame). The author of the present composition combines in an exceptional way the genre of the still life of flowers with the Andalusian baroque models of the end of the XVII century. A young girl looks directly at the viewer as she works as a florist, assembling a delicate bouquet of flowers in her hands. The wicker baskets, the stone planters and the majolica flowerpots complete a totally aesthetic work, a faithful reflection of the Andalusian pictorial models of the late 17th century. The work is an advance on the gallant and hedonistic, cheerful and colorful compositions that marked the course of 19th century Andalusian painting, inspired by an idealized past, often from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Lot 12

Catalan school, ca.1880."Convent scene".Oil on canvas. From the workshop of Laureano Barrau.Period frame.Measurements: 94 x 185 cm; 124 x 215 cm (frame).Characters of rigorous black, wrapped in long monastic tunics, go down some stone stairs that lead to an esplanade with cypresses. The characteristic trees of the cemeteries, the religious characters and the conventual architecture take us into a funereal and enigmatic atmosphere. The twilight lights give the stones a silvery patina. One of the monks, whose face we do not see, is separated from the rest and carries a torch in his right hand. The painting, of Catalan school, belonging to the last third of the 19th century, reminds us of the twilight atmospheres of Modest Urgell.

Wall pieces decorated the interior of the Temple of the Chachapoyan Warriors in Peru, where Indy (Harrison Ford) retrieved the golden fertility idol during the film's opening sequence. One of the temple's various booby traps shot darts out of two walls as Indy made his escape with the idol. The set for the temple's interior was built on Stage 4 at Elstree Studios, and the darts were created by mechanical effects supervisor Kit West, who won the Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects for his work on the film, alongside Richard Edlund, Bruce Nicholson and Joe Johnston. There are no intentional holes in this particular wall piece, suggesting that darts were not shot from it. Made of fibrous plaster, the wall piece features a "God of Light" face and is hand-painted to resemble grey stone. Faux moss is applied all over to create an ancient and decrepit look. Intentionally distressed for the production, the wall piece displays areas of light paint wear. Dimensions: 38 cm x 38 cm x 13 cm (15" x 15" x 5¼") Estimate: £8,000 - 12,000 M

Achilles wielded his sword throughout the film, using it to brutal effect during his efficient dispatching of Boagrius (Nathan Jones) in the opening scene, in his battles against the Trojan Apollonians, and in his vicious duel with Hector (Eric Bana). This is the hero version of this spectacular weapon, created for close-up shots and made from heavyweight materials to the highest standards. The blade forms a delicate curved-leaf shape. It is made of solid bronze and decorated with curved inlays coming down from its black, solid-cast resin handle. There are holes at each corner of the grip, giving the illusion of rivets, and a ridge runs down the centre of the blade to just below the tip. The weapon comes with a bespoke display stand, made in the production's workshop, which features a marble-like stone base, with the film-title artwork painted in gold. Green paint has been skillfully applied to the handle and bottom of the blade to create the appearance of a verdigris patina, and the weapon has been intentionally distressed to look battle-worn.
