Spanish fleur de lis processional cross with an affixed Christ crowned in the centre, in gilded copper, with incised decoration and cabochons. Gothic. 14th century. 12" x 7.5" The cross is ornamented on the front and on the back by engraved decoration representing a fine trunk or branch from which leaves emerge. Ending with a fleur-de-lis at its four points, enriched by red stone cabochons (two are not preserved), around which there is an oval-shaped bulge. The typology is characteristic of the crosses produced in Spain at this time, both for those made in precious metals such as gold or silver, or those such as this crucifix, which imitate them, made of gilded copper. It is interesting that the original gilding is preserved and is in magnificent condition. There is a flaw on the far left. This cross is comparable to the one kept in the Metropolitan Museum of New York with inventory number 36,134, which is of the same typology and chronology, although this one also presents affixed figures with enamel .
