A good George III inlaid mahogany longcase clock With a 33cm arched brass dial signed Latham, Wigan with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, cast gilt metal mask and leaf spandrels, the lunar calendar painted with a stone bridge and a castle, the two train eight day movement with anchor escapement rack striking on a bell in a good quality case with a pagoda top, swan neck cresting with gilt flower and leaf terminals painted glass panels above brass capped fluted columns the trunk door with well figured wood flanked by quarter columns raised upon a panelled plinth base lacking bracket feet, approximately 230cms high x 50cms with two weights, pendulum and door key. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Pagoda shape top to the hood lacking a finial, carved flowers part of the scrolling leaf damaged approximately 2.5cms, the glass frieze possible crack or division in the centre and a crack on the right hand side, gilt decoration dull, glass to door original, holder original putty in place, crossbanding and line inlays to door good some tarnishing to the gilded tops and plinth of fluted columns, left hand back column lacking, the right hand back column sits overtly proud, trunk, pine back natural shrinkage crack, old wall fixing screw apertures, long door warped at the top and dose not close tight, good colour, discolouration to the capitals and bases of the fluted side columns, original pine horizontal board to bottom plinth, side moulding right hand side missing, stress crack running horizontally on the bottom of the raised panel plinth good colour, the panel is sitting proud on the right hand side and requires tightening, lacking feet, the arched dial some discolouration to gilding the arch, lunar calendar some scratching to the paintwork of the castle, moon face and bridge rubbing to the silvered chapter ring, some dirt discolouration to the central matted ground, scratching and rubbing to the seconds ring and date aperture, fingers appear original. movement not running (the side. moulding off the plinth is in the box with the clock requires re-fixing, but slightly chipped on the outer edge), foot board part replaced.
