A good George III style serpentine fronted mahogany serving table in the manner of William Vile, circa 1880, the top with acanthus and egg and dart moulded border edge, the frieze fitted twin drawers with swagged and pendant husk and oval floriate paterae applied decoration centred by a swagged and acanthus leaf classical female mask motif within bead and bead and reed line borders, the whole flanked to either end with twin oval floriate paterae headers above twin acanthus, pendant husk and acanthus scrolling tapering legs on moulded feet, the plain single back legs on corresponding feet Provenance: By repute, removed from Newberry Hall, Country Kildare, Ireland. Newberry Hall, situated in the parish of Carbury, Co. Kildare, was built in the 1760s for Arthur Pomeroy. Built in the Palladian style house of red brick with stone facings, its design is attributed to the amateur architect Nathaniel Clements. Arthur Pomeroy, who later became Lord Haberton, obtained the lands of Newberry through marriage to Mary Colley in 1747. The Colley family were at this time living in Carbury Castle. Pomeroy, although owning a house in Dublin, decided to build himself a country seat at Newberry, thus commissioning the construction of house. 92cm high, 153cm wide, 57.5cm deep In good condition commensurate with age, with some very minor scratches and dents.
