Bronze fire gilt Tibet or Nepal , 16th century Dimensions: Height 16 cm by 4 cm Weight: 432,5 grams Elaborately crafted sculpture standing on a small lotus base with beaded rims, the hands joined in front of the chest holding a devotional object. Dressed in long striped dhoti with ornate waistbelt. The whole body is adorned with beaded jewellery highlighted with stone inlays in blue. The chest is also decorated with a beaded chest piece, large earrings hang down over the shoulders. The face is graceful with downcast eyes and high eyebrows. At the back of the tiara we can see the strands of hair done up in a bun.

Bronze Tibet , 16th century Dimensions: Height 10 cm by 7 cm Weight: 212,5 grams Green Tara is easily recognizable by the lotus flower in the hand. Here she is seated in royal ease pose on a double reverse lotus base with her right foot supported on an extra lotus flower growing from the front. Her right hand is resting on the knee with palm facing up and the other hand lifted forming a mudra. A loose scarf is covering her lap, her body is adorned with various jewellery like armlets and necklaces, some have stone inlay highlights. Her face is smiling gently with small lips, a small nose and closed eyes. The elongated earlobes are adorned with large circular earrings. A five-pointed tiara with beaded lines is on the head. The lotus flower is peeking out over her left shoulder.

Bronze fire giltChina , 14th century , Yuan periodDimensions: Height 11 cm by 7 cmWeight: 325,3 gramsGreen Tara seated in royal ease pose on a double reverse lotus base with beaded rim, one foot drawn to the thigh while the other leg is pendent standing on an extra lotus flower on the front of the throne. Her right hand is resting on her knee with the palm facing the sky, gesture of dispensing boons. The other hand is positioned in front of the heart and is holding the stem of a lotus flower. A long skirt with floral pattern covers her legs and is fastened around the waist by a belt with three stone inlay in the center. She wears bracelets, armlets and a big necklace with stone inlay around the chest. Big circular earrings hang from her earlobes. The face is rounded and smiling with fleshy cheeks. Her high chignon with lotus bud finial is enclosed by a five-pointed tiara with stone inlay.

Black Stone India , 12th century or later Dimensions: Height 10 cm by 7,5 cm Weight: 661,5 grams This black stone head represents a Jain, here depicted with a broad face, small lips, long nose and downcast eyes with thin eyebrows. The ears are elongated and the neck shows several necklines. Tiny curls cover the head. The cranial protuberance or ushnisha is missing just like the dot between the eyes or urna, making it clear that this is a depiction of a Jain. Jain comes from the word "jina" meaning "liberator" or "victor". The historical founder of Jainism is not Buddha Gautama but Mahavira.

Schist Stone Gandhara , 3rd to 4th century Dimensions: Height 15 cm by 12 cm without base Weight: 2074,7 grams with base Head of a juvenile Buddha attached to a plinth. The face has extremely fine features with a small chin, slim jaw and half-closed eyes, the lips smiling faintly. A dot indicates the third eye. The wavy hair is done up into a bun, there is no jewellery or decoration.

BronzeTibet or China , 18th centuryPrajnaparamita translates into "wisdom" and "perfection" and actually refers to a state of mind, the highest of the six paramitas which shape the path of a Bodhisattva on the way to Nirvana. Here depicted as female Bodhisattva seated, holding the script in her left raised hand, the other hand resting on the thigh with palm facing up and thumb touching the slightly bent middle and ring finger. She is dressed in a flowy robe covering her legs and a scarf around her shoulders covers her breasts like a bra. A large necklace decorates her chest and neck, beaded bracelets and anklets her extremities. She has a gentle, smooth face with small mouth and lips, the eyes are attentive. She is wearing a tiara with stone inlay.

Schist Stone Gandhara , 3rd to 4th century Dimensions: Height 15 cm by 24 cm Weight: 2441,8 grams Buddha depicted among four adorants. Seated with legs crossed on a higher base, his size is larger than the others. A wide cloth is draped over his lower body creating many waves, it is thrown over his left shoulder and covers the chest. Holding his robe with his left hand while the other is raised showing the gesture of fearlessness. His face is small, the expression stern, his wavy hair done up in a small bun, the ears slightly elongated. A small aureole behind his head. Two monks are seated to his right side with a standing adorant behind them. To his left side we see a standing follower dressed like a common person in short dhoti with his hands joined in front of his chest in adoration. All of the followers have their heads bowed in a humbling manner. At the right backside of the panel we see the branch of a tree hanging, possibly referring to the bodhi tree under which Buddha had his enlightenment.

Stone India , 11th to 12th century , Pala Dynasty Dimensions: Height 52 cm by 35 cm Weight: 9896 grams Stone stele with depiction of Manasa the Goddess of Snakes. She is seated on a double lotus thrown with her right leg pendent and resting on a lotus blossom. A round vessel is placed in the middle of the throne. Her right arm is resting on the knee with open palms facing the viewer and fingers pointed towards the ground, the middle finger squeezed into the palm. The other hand is holding a snake in front of her body. She is wearing a striped dhoti attached around the waist by a waistbelt. Her whole body is adorned with elaborate jewellery. She is sheltered by a canopy of seven cobras of which three heads are missing. A scarf is billowing around her shoulders. She is flanked by her husband the sage Jaratkaru and her son Astika. Manasa is worshipped chiefly for the prevention and cure of snakebite and for fertility and prosperity.

The remaining hands are holding a vajra, a lotus flower and a bow, the hand in front of her belly is forming a mudra. She is wearing a very high conical headdress and her gaze is friendly and smiling elegantly. She was probably shown in dancing motion. On her left side we see a face peeking over her shoulder with a snout, possibly a Hanuman face surrounded by a fiery aureole.

Black Stone India , 18th century or earlier Dimensions: Height 31 cm by 17 cm without base Weight: 8662 grams with base Stone stele with a standing Ganesha in open work. The elephant king is standing on a lotus flower on ornamental grounds, two smaller lotus flowers on each side. Ganesha's vahana or vehicle the mouse or rat is sitting on the smaller flower to his left. He is holding his battle hatchet in his left hand and is resting it on the other small flower. One hand is lowered to the ground with middle and ring finger squeezed into the palm. The other arms are raised, one hand holding a ball filled to the brim with sweets and the other hand clasping his own broken tusk. His big round belly is hanging over his short striped dhoti, the serpent tied around with a knot to keep it from bursting open. His trunk is reaching to the left to grab some sweets. Beaded strings decorate his forehead and his hair is held back by a headpiece.

Schist stone Gandhara , 3rd to 4th century Dimensions: Height 33 cm by 10 cm Weight: 4090 grams Standing Bodhisattva on a square base with bare feet. The Gandhara sculpture was heavily influenced by Scynthia, Roman and Parthian art besides Indian influences. The Buddha or Bodhisattvas are often depicted as bejewelled prince with moustache and wavy hair. This example is dressed in heavy cloths draping the body in many waves. The chest is naked and only decorated with beaded necklaces. With his left hand he is holding the robe draped over his shoulder, the other hand is raised, seemingly holding something before or gesturing a mudra. Details are lost. The face is slim with a moustache with a serious expression. A turban-like headdress decorates the head which is backed by a round aureole. Large ear pendants hang down onto the shoulders.

Bronze fire gilt Tibet , 17th to 18th century Dimensions: Height 26 cm by 19 cm Weight: 2423 grams This is a fierce emanation of a yidam in the Tantric Buddhism, shown in a flaming aureole with a female consort called Vajravarahi in tight embrace called yab yum position. They are standing on top of two prostrate and kneeling creatures. Besides clasping his consort in his tight embrace, his other ten hands are holding various objects and weapons like severed heads, a spear with a crescent moon, a damaru drum, a vajra, a battle hatchet and so on. He has four faces, each wearing a crown enclosing high chignon. Vajravarahi is dressed in a skirt with many turquoise stone inlay and a skull garland around the hip. This is a very dramatic and emotional depiction of "The Binding of the Wheel" tantra.

Bronze with silver and copper inlaysTibet , 15th centuryDimensions: Height 22 cm by 15 cm Weight: 889,1 gramsHe is one of the five meditation Buddhas and here represented seated cross-legged on a double reverse lotus base with beaded rims. The hand gesture is distinctive for Ratnasambhava Buddha, the right hand showing the varada mudra, a gesture of generosity and patience. The other hand is resting in his lap with the palm facing to the sky. His eyes are downcast and the lips almost grinning. His body is dressed in a long dhoti with decorative brim, a billowing scarf surrounds him. Beautiful jewellery with stone inlay adorns his body and a five-pointed tiara encloses his chignon. The back of the statue is simple with less details.

Bronze fire gilt with embossed base Nepal or Tibet , 15th century Dimensions: Height 14 cm by 10 cm Weight: 588,1 grams The Buddhist Bodhisattva of wealth and prosperity and literally translated as "Stream of Gems". Seated on a lotus base with beaded rim in typical lalitasana pose with one leg casually hanging from the throne resting on a treasure vase. Here she has six arms which is almost exclusively found in Nepal. Her first hand is showing the gesture of generosity and at the top thumb touching the middle finger, while the middle hand is holding the Three Jewels of Buddhism. The left hand in her lap is holding a treasure vase, an ear of grain and a sacred text to grant wisdom. Her body is adorned with a great amount of jewellery with stone inlays. Her face is serious and the head decorated with a large tiara backed by an aureole.

Schist stone Gandhara , 3rd to 4th century Dimensions: Height 9 cm by 6 cm Weight: 584,8 grams with base This stone of a male Bodhisattva is attached to a wall and shows very elegant features. Schist was used in the earlier period like phyllite and later also stucco. This finely created face shows influence from Hellenistic art, with a small moustache and goat beard, closed eyes and slim chin. A hole between the eyes indicates the presence of former stone inlay. The head is covered by an ornamental cloth or headpiece, the curls can be seen underneath.

Stone India , 11th to 12th century Dimensions: Height 20 cm by 22 cm without base Weight: 5484 grams Stone stele of a Vishnu fragment, the statue is missing from the hip. The sacred thread is hanging over his left chest. His arms are raised holding a mace or gada symbolizing mental and physical strength and probably the discus or chakra, a weapon which he will also put to use to restore peace. On both sides of his head are additional faces, possibly depicting a three-headed Vishnu. He is wearing a conical headdress with decorative band, his face is smiling.

The body is adorned with jewellery with stone inlays. The left hand is raised in front of the chest with thumb and index finger touching. The right hand is wielding the sword in the air. The face has a friendly expression.

Here she is kept lifted up in a floating position, her body a mere skelet adorned with opulent jewellery highlighted with turquoise stone inlay. She has four arms, each holding attributes: vajra, skull cup, khatvanga staff and drum. A large garland is hanging down from her shoulders. Her hollow face is smiling evilish and her head wears an opulent crown enclosing a high chignon with lotus bud finial. Her old and frightening look projects fear and horror in contrast to the Hindu goddesses. She bears resemblance to Kali or Durga
