marcus C Stone [1840 -1921] contemplation; study of a young woman signed and dated ‘68 watercolour, oval 26 x 20.5 cm. Frank Harding Renmark, [Australia 1935-1990] was born in Werrimul, Victoria and educated in Eaglehawk and Redesdale, After leaving school he worked in a shearing team, before joining the police force where he rose to the rank of detective, resigning in 1975. He then embarked on a career as an artist, building a studio and gallery in Renmark. He held many exhibitions throughout Australia, England and the USA, painting in oil, egg tempera, watercolour, pen and ink. Harding had a scholarly interest in history and as a result of his research on the colonial bush-ranging period, he was made a Fellow of The Australian Institute of History & Art [1986]. In 1988 he began a series of aircraft paintings winning the prestigious Royal Australian Heritage Award in 1989. Harding was a self-taught artist, illustrator and author and those who knew him say he had a great respect and admiration for all humanity. Renmark is a town in South Australia’s rural riverland area and is located 250km north east of Adelaide on the banks of the river Murray.
