Dutch School (17th century)Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, wearing a black satin doublet with an elaborate white ruff and lace cuff holding a tasselled sash and standing before stone pillarsOil on canvas, 64.5cm by 62cmIn a fully restored state of preservation. Fairly recently and stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. The surface of the paitning is somewhat flattened and the paint is this in areas as a result of the restoration process. Some minor rubbing/losses/abrasions to edges as a result of movement in the frame. Slight chalky quality to some of the varnish especially within a band along the lower edge approx. 2-3cm wide. Some retouching across face and elsewhere discoloured and deteriorated and visible by eye. Much of the background is retouched, overpainted and stergnthend, possibly with two phases of restoration or intervention. Fairly consistent retouching and strengthening throughout, and to definition and shadow across his doublet. His left hand seemingly less affected with more sporadic and delicate retouching and infilling across his ruff and face.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) Production made sealed unopened Hogwarts Invitation envelope addressed to Harry Potter. These envelopes can be seen flying through the air in the movie. Two styles of envelopes were made for production with either a rear wax seal or rear printed seal, this being of the latter style, 13 x 18.5 cm. With letter of provenance.

Harry Potter - A presentation 'Golden Snitch', Warner Bros., the silvered metal 'Golden Snitch' marked TM & © Warner Bros (s01), inspired by the actual Golden Snitch as seen in the motion picture Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone (2001), made of solid brass with a gold-plated ball and silvered-metal wings, in custom-made wooden box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed and dated by the President of Consumer Products at Warner Bros., and a corresponding letter (16.5cm) long. Replica golden snitches as seen in the film's Quidditch scenes were gifted to Warner Bros. executives and VIPs to commemorate the release. Only 50 are thought to have been produced.

Rowling, uncorrected proof copy of the first edition book in original white and yellow wrappers, one of approximately 200 copies produced, includes error to title page "J.A Rowling", 224pp, numbered 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. Condition Report: In very fine condition, only very light handling and small crease down spine. All pages are clean and present. This book is fresh to the market and the fourth one we have offered at auction. It is owned by a private collector who has owned it for 15 years.

Acquired by inheritance in 2022.In good state of preservation.Measurements: 18 cm (length).This knife has been carved on both sides to achieve a pointed shape and cutting at both ends. It was a prehistoric lithic tool used to cut, scrape and perforate materials and animals.

Fragment of a finely carved bas-relief of Pharaoh Thutmose III. Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty.Limestone.Conservation: slight wear and tear due to age.Provenance: acquired in a private collection in New York in 1960, and later in a private Spanish collection A.B. before 1985.Measurements: 15 x 12 x 2,5 cm.Fragment of Egyptian relief carved with fine incision in limestone. It depicts a figure whose clothing and attributes identify him as Thutmose III. After a more archaic phase, in which the reliefs were a simple drawing engraved with deep incision on the stone, came a more elaborate phase, in which the figure is delicately modelled and does not protrude from the surface of the stone. In a third phase, the figure is finely modelled and rises slightly above the background, which has been lowered around it. The relief fragment shown here belongs to this third period. Bas-relief was much more common than high relief in Egyptian relief. Usually, the lower limbs and feet were depicted in profile and the shoulders from the front. The size of the figures corresponds to the social rank and importance of the personage: huge for the Pharaoh, the smallest for slaves, followed by artisans, peasants and soldiers. As for the subject matter, they could be genre scenes and customs that accompanied the tombs of the deceased, showing the chores of daily life.

Smeaton (John) Narrative of the Building and a Description of the Construction of the Edystone Lighthouse with Stone, second edition, engraved title vignette, 23 engraved plates and plans, some off-setting, light damp-staining and spotting to title and plates, title and plate with small tear and paper repairs to edges, twentieth century blue morocco-backed boards, [Goldsmiths' 15747], folio, 1813.⁂ Smeaton's own account of his great lighthouse, completed in 1759. His tower was the third on the treacherous Eddystone reef, 14 miles off the Plymouth coast. The two earlier timber structures, by Winstanley and Rudyard, had both been destroyed. Building with masonry, Smeaton devised and ingenious method of dovetailing and interlocking the blocks of stone to ensure maximum strength, and his example was followed for later towers. In the appendix Smeaton describes the construction of Spurn Point lighthouse on the Humber bank, which was also built to his design.

Canova (Antonio, Italian sculptor, 1757-1822) Pass to study at Musei Pontifici, "The Director of the Capitoline Museum permits the Mr John Davis to do studies in the stated museum",1 ff. printed text with manuscript insertions on laid paper, official stamp, signed by Canova, 22 January, 1822.⁂ Autograph signature of the famed sculpture Antonio Canova in his capacity as "L'Ispettore Generale delle Antichita Musei etc", signed with the artist's usual flamboyant flourish. In 1802 Pope Pius VII bestowed on Antonio Canova, by then the most celebrated artist in Europe, the title of "Inspector-General of Antiquities and Fine Art to the Papal State" (a position which had once been held by Raphael). In 1819, the year this document was signed, Canova laid the foundation stone to the Tempio Canoviano, the church which he himself had designed for Possagno (the town of his birth). The document here is one of the official permits which Canova was obliged to issue to Grand Tourists, allowing them entry to study in the Vatican Museums.
