Incised signature along the side.John Rood's time in Minnesota was marked by his influential role as a sculpture teacher at the University of Minnesota, where he worked primarily with wood before expanding into stone carving, bronze, and metal. He married Dorothy Bridgman Atkinson in 1948, and together they established the Rood Sculpture Collection to support arts at the university. Rood's dedication led to his promotion to Professor in 1957. After retiring from teaching, he continued to exhibit his work locally and internationally, exploring new materials such as wrought iron and stained glass. His legacy persists in the abundance of his sculptures in the Twin Cities area, notably housed in the Weisman Art Museum's permanent collection, with his papers archived at Syracuse University.Height: 5 1/2 in x width: 16 1/2 in x depth: 4 1/2 in.Condition:There are no major chips, splits, losses, or restorations. Engraved by F. William Bracher.This map was published by George E. Warner (1826-1917) and Charles M. Foote (1849- 1899) who were writers of many county and city histories in Minnesota. F. William Bracher (1827-1912) was born in Wurtenberg, Germany and arrived in Philadelphia by 1850. He was a stone lithographic printer. He worked independently from 1879 to his retirement in 1891 at 31 S 6th St., Philadelphia, the address on on this map. He produced many regional maps of American locales.Copies of this map are found in the Hennepin County Library, the Library of Congress, the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Library, the New York Public Library, and the University of Minnesota Map Library.Height: 72 in x width: 64 in.Condition:The map is rolled and somewhat fragile. There is water exposure throughout, visible in the lot listing. The sheet is toned and some of the colors are faded. There are tears throughout.
