Archaeology in Syria.- Huxley (Henry Minor, patent lawyer and anthropologist, 1880-1954) 5 Autograph Letters signed to his mother, together 24pp., 8vo, Beirut & Hama, 1900-01, regarding the Howard Crosby Butler archaeological expedition to Syria, "On Butler's expedition, we found an inscription in a new language. Some of the letters were Latin and some did not seem to belong to any well known language. Prentice took a squeeze of this, but did not have time to copy all of the inscription in fact, only the first part. We turned the stone face downward, and went along. On this trip I passed the place, and again found the stone, which had not been touched... . I turned it up, washed it and carefully copied it, also took two photographs of it, a thing which I think we did not do before. If these two photographs turn out well, this will be the most important result of this X trip", folds.⁂ Howard Crosby Butler (1872-1922), American archaeologist.
