Tom Perkins, British, b.1957, 'All is Transfigured by a Touch of Hands', Welsh slate menhir on sandstone base, conceived in 1992, stone 110.5cm high, total 120.5cm highProvenance: Lloyds TSB plc, September 2000. Bought September 2000.Exhibited: London, Bonhams, Exhibition of Contemporary Craft and Design, January 1992.Literature: T. Perkins, Tom Perkins, Letter Carver, Ditchling, 1998, p. 3, pl. 18.Note: Sir Nicholas Goodison notes: I originally bought this piece for TSB Group at Bonham's exhibition of contemporary craft and design in January 1992, £1500. The full text reads 'All is transfigured by a touch of hands'. The sandstone base proved unstable, too small to support the weight of the menhir, which was anyway too loosely fitted into the slot in the stone. It became a danger to the grandchildren. Tom and Grace Perkins travelled from Ely with the larger replacement base in his rucksack in 2015 and after much chiselling fixed it in place on the top landing. Please refer to department for condition report
