Victorian ruby and diamond five stone ring with two mixed cut rubies interspaced by three old cut diamonds in Gypsy-style gold (18ct) setting (Chester 1884). Ring size N½ CONDITION REPORT Good condition, wear commensurate with age, good clear hallmarks, maker's mark - S. U. Central diamond measures approximately 2.80mm. Rubies measure approximately 2.75mm and 2.60mm diameter. Width approximately 6.23mm. Total gross weight 3.7 grams
DUTCH EAST INDIA COMPANY.A large 17th century Japanese Arita 'VOC' charger, at the centre, the monogram of the Dutch East India Company. Diameter 37cm. Provenance: From the home of the vendor's great uncle, who was the last private banker in the Netherlands & had a home in Weesp. The original Jenever 'Dutch Gin' was distilled in Weesp. Much of the Jenever was made for the VOC, who used the filled stone bottles as ballast & also distributed it amongst the sailors & passengers to curb scurvy. (The vendor has produced lengthy historical notes to accompany this lot.
