Smeaton, John (Civil Engineer), A Narrative of the Building and a Description of the Construction of the Edystone Lighthouse with Stone: To which is Subjoined, an Appendix, giving some Account of the Lighthouse on the Spurn Point, Built upon a Sand , second edition, corrected, 1793, title with engraved vignette, twenty-three engraved plates, maps and plans, some toning and spotting mostly to leaves of text, aeg, full diced calf, rebacked, large folio; with a copy of Price Edwards, E., The Eddystone Lighthouses (New and Old), Simpkin, Marshall & Co., London 1882, three plates, last two leaves of text supplied in facsimilie, recent cloth, 8vo (2). Provenance: The library of Michael Hurst; the first with the bookplate of Francis Godolphin Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds, KG, PC (1751-1799). Completed in 1759, the lighthouse was in use until 1877, the upper section was then dismantled and reassembled at Plymouth Hoe. This was Smeaton's first project and established his reputation as one of the eighteenth century's foremost engineers.
GOOD LARGE PAIR OF RECONSTITUTED STONE FLUTED PEDESTAL GARDEN URNS with egg and dart rims and beaded pedestals on circular bases with square plinths. 71 x 65cm.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Minor damage but basically well weathered with only odd chips and losses with age, now bolted together.
GEORGIAN MOURNING RING decorated with blue enamel inset to the centre with a foiled pink stone surrounded by pearls with engraved gold and blue enamel shank. Inscribed: 'Anne Pilkington ob 4th May 1819 age 34'. Ring size L. Weight 8g.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Some damage to blue enamel, otherwise good. Unmarked yellow metal.
