Medieval Silver Brooch. Circa 13th-14th century AD. Silver 42mm diameter, 9.1g. An annular brooch formed of a plain band mounted with five lozenge plate decorations. Four have the same quartered design consisting of two plain lozenge panels and two containing cross motifs. The last lozenge has the design of four inward facing arrow motifs. The pin is incomplete. Recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as FASAM-3D17E1. This coin featured in the Searcher Magazine November 2021 'Carausius and the milkmaid', by Dr Sam Moorhead and Lee Richardson. Dr Moorhead writes 'This is the first clear example of this particular variety, though tjhe same reverse appears with four coins which show Carausius in consular dress on the obverse.
