19th Century Chinese blue and white high shouldered vase with wide 'onion' style neck, depicting warrior in full ceremonial dress holding an axe, a Kylin seated on a plinth stand at his side, inscription to stand and verso extolling the virtues of the warrior, elaborate Qianlong mark to base, Zhuanshu script flanked by dragons. CONDITION REPORT: Vase glaze is good and bright. There is a central luting line. There are no apparent chips, cracks or restoration but there is some scratching to the surface and some fine sparks from the kiln leaving black pinprick marks. Height 37cm.

Mackenzie Wallace, Constantinople[,]October 1884, the pages measure 35cm x 47.5cm, ex-libris Francis Marion Crawford [1854-1909, the famed American novelist who went on to write a history of Constantinople in 1895], 36cm x 48.5cm overall Sir Donald Mackenzie Wallce, KCIE, KCVO (1841-1919) was a Scottish public servant, editor and foreign correspondent of The Times [of London]. From 1878-1884 Mackenzie Wallace was in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) investigating the Balkan peoples, their problems which culminated in all too frequent Balkan crises that in themselves lead to the First World War.
