An American copy of a Dior cocktail dress, 1951, red silk grosgrain with black passementerie with boned strapless bodice and full skirt, bust 81-86cm, 32-34in, waist 61cm, 24in The Dior model can be seen in L'Officiel de la Mode, September 1951, no 353-354 p.147. CONDITION REPORT: Looks little worn. Good condition, very fresh. A few detached beads but nothing obvious and we have them safe in a bag. No alterations apart from raising of the hem by 3cm.

A Germaine Lecomte couture pink and blue chiffon dress, early 1950s, large woven Paris label, the intricately pleated bodice adorned with silver bugle beads and pastes, bust 81-86cm, 32-34in, waist 51cm, 20in CONDITION REPORT: First appearance is good and very pretty. Rayon petticoat hem has been raised, soiling along hem edge of chiffon over-skirt, repairs and holes along hem edge mainly rear left and right sides. Bodice is lacking quite a number of silver bugle beads from the foliate bands that cross it. L-shaped repair in chiffon near centre front hem. Approx 3 light brown stains to rear skirt, concealed within pleats when worn. Faint perspiration stains at underarms which are hardly visible.
Assorted clothing, comprising: two 1930s ivory satin dresses; black satin and grey wool hooded coat; a floral chiffon dress with matching scarf; an elaborately embroidered and sequined blouse c.1910 and a gold stencilled cotton kaftan c.1920 (7) CONDITION REPORT: · Chiffon dress - good condition · Black coat - satin is splitting, buttons removed, poor condition · Long sleeved satin dress - several light brown stains, perspiration stains at underarms, hem is soiled and has been let down, chiffon edging at neckline needs re-stitching, belt needs re-stitching at seam · Sleeveless ivory satin - several small light brown stains, faint perspiration stains at underarms. Hem has been let down, soiled. · Kaftan - couple of purple coloured stains, seam at neckline needs re-stitching approx. 1cm, otherwise good. · Blouse - heavily stained, silk lining is shattering
A whitework embroidered day dress, circa 1825, the bodice and puff sleeves embroidered with buds, the skirt hem with carnation trails, both with pulled and drawn-threadwork centres; together with an associated muslin petticoat with deep whitework band to hem, bust approx 81cm, 32in (2) CONDITION REPORT: The bodice has been removed, enlarged and re-sewn to the skirt. Later added Valenciennes trim to neck. Small hole at left underarm, small darn right shoulder. Front hem edge has been well mended horizontally approx. 30cm. The pattern on the skirt and bodice do not match. Modern prestud fasteners and hooks at waist. The muslin has a nicely done vertical repair below the rear skirt opening 27cm long, otherwise good, fresh appearance. 2 small holes in rear skirt. 3 small holes in front skirt. The petticoat has a modern synthetic upper bodice and zip fastening. Embroidered muslin skirt has one small hole to front. Muslin has slightly separated from cutwork motif at hem.
A couture crewel-worked and sequined burnt orange crêpe de chine summer dress, mid 1920s, worked with Eastern European inspired floral motifs, sequinned tassels, with belt, bust 86cm, 34in; together with a couture midnight blue taffeta dress and jacket embroidered with ivory chenille roundels, early 1930s, bust 86-92cm, 34-36in (4) CONDITION REPORT: · Silk has perished at underarms on orange dress, yoke and underarm seams have been re-sewn. Hem has been raised and re-lowered, bodice side seams have been cut and altered again. Matching jacket is good, tony split in silk at one underarm (minor). · Navy couture dress - good condition, no problems, very fresh, belt buckle has cracked white hardstone

An officer’s full dress sabretache, c 1825, of The 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, blue velvet centre with regimental pattern silver lace border, bearing silver embroidered and sequinned Star of The Order of St Patrick, with red and white centre backing, within Guelphic crowned scrolls “Royal Irish Dragoon Guards”, “Peninsula” and “IV”, on a wreath of shamrocks, leather pouch, 3 suspension loops and buckles, 14½” x 12½”. Pound, depicting the Earl in full military dress with honours (including 4 clasp Crimea medal) carrying mameluke sword and headdress, 10½” x 7”, framed. An officer’s full dress sword c 1835, of the Life Guards, straight fullered blackened blade 33½”, gilt brass boatshell guard with long quillon, knucklebow screwed to ball pommel with prominent cap, solid section to top of sil ver wirebound swollen grip. GC the hilt retaining approx 20% gilt.
An early 19th century coloured print, of “An Officer (Lieut Col) of the 14th Light Dragoons, In Parade Dress”, published by Colnaghi, April 1812, in Hogarth frame, 11½” x 15”, basically GC (stained and foxed, the frame damaged); and a modern reprint of Marshal Beresford at the Battle of Albuera, 1811, in Hogarth frame. A post 1902 officer’s full dress sporran of The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, gilt cantle embossed with thistles and battle honour scrolls “Peninsula”, “Egypt” and “Waterloo”, in the centre the regimental badge with silver plated device, grey goatshair with 6 bullion tassels on blue and gilt cords, red leather pouch. Union Nationale des Societes de Tir de France, cast bronze plaque, signed H Dubois, for Barbedienne. Uniface, the design shows winged figure carrying a naked warrior away from the battle ground, a burning town behind. Honneur and Patrie either side, top ring mount, 253mm c 1894 GVF. A two part medallion “La Bretagne” in bronze, obverse lady in traditional dress sits beside a window, reverse Breton cross Calvary, by Dufresne and issued by SAMF. Each side is uniface bar four figure “4” raised to one side and incuse to the other which, when aligned show the medallion in the usual style. VF
A Household Cavalry officer’s levee dress sword, c 1840, straight, fullered blade 33” (tip slightly shortened) with maker’s name “Andrews 9 Pall Mall London” in etched panel on one side at forte, gilt semi boat shell hilt (the inner portion of the guard officially removed), reinforced edge, upswept quillon, the guard screwed into ball pommel, silver wirebound grip, in a non matching brass mounted leather scabbard. GC, the blade retaining much original polish.
An 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s dress sword, slender slightly curved blade 31½”, by Buckmaster (logo unclear), etched with crowned VR cypher in stylised foliate panels with blank escutcheon, regulation steel hilt with crossguard and quillon, sideloop, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, stepped pommel, plain crossguard, backstrap, wierbound fishskin grip, in non matching steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (some wear overall).
An Crimean War period officer’s uniform of The 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment, comprising an officer’s 1844 (Albert) pattern shako, black beaver skull, leather front and back peaks and top, leather backed, graduated roped link, gilt chinchain and ear rosettes, fine gilt crowned star shako plate, with 8 battle honours “Peninsula” to “Plassey” on the rays of the star, and “Maharajpore” below central wreath and motto, surrounding regimental badge in the centre, with silver plated castle, white over red ball tuft plume (no socket). Very Good Condition (no lining) and officer’s pre 1855 full dress scarlet coatee, grass green facings, 2 gilt lace loops to collar and 4 to cuffs with small buttons, 2 lines of 10 buttons to chest, buttons bearing crowned “39” in French circle, white turnbacks to skirts with embroidered castle in wreath and scrolls ornaments, gilt lace epaulettes with 3” bullion tassels, gilt crescents and buttons. The coatee has an unofficial pink flannel lining applied to combat the rigours of the harsh Crimean winter of 1854. Good Condition the gilt good (old repair to cuffs). See Plate 23 and Front Cover. Note: Believed to be the uniform of William Henry Wilson, Ensign 9th June 1846, Lieutenant and Adjutant 1st May 1851, he married Durham heiress, a Miss Todd, and became an MP. He changed his name to Wilson-Todd and his son was appointed Sub Lieutenant in the 1st Durham Fusiliers Militia 15th March 1876.
An officer’s full dress uniform, with sword, of a Lieutenant, Royal Naval Reserve c 1910, comprising: cocked hat with bullion tassels fore and aft, twisted cord loop with button, in its tin case; tailcoat with white facings, gilt lace to collar (stitching faults) and cuffs with 2 lines of wavy braid; pair gilt epaulettes bearing embroidered fouled anchor within oval “Royal Naval Reserve”, in their velvet lined fitted tin case; pair overalls with gilt lace stripe; full dress waistbelt with double gilt stripes and gilt waistbelt clasp, and similar undress belt without stripes; Victorian Royal Naval officer’s sword, very slightly curved blade 29”, bearing crowned fouled anchor on one side and crowned Royal Arms on the other, in foliate panels, half basket gilt hilt with turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, and incorporating crowned fouled anchor, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wire bound fishskin grip, with dress knot, in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings; all contained in tin trunk with initials JCR on lid. Uniform Very Good Condition, sword Good Condition the hilt retaining approximately 20% gilt, (light pitting to blade, scabbard some wear) Plate 9
A Victorian officer’s full dress embroidered sabretache of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, c 1845, blue cloth backing, broad gilt lace border with looped wavy inner edge, in the centre a gilt embroidered coronet over an elaborate “V” enclosing “1” and scrolls “Royal Gloucestershire Hussars”, leather backing and pouch, 3 suspension dees.
