An interesting Chinese doll of a standing scholar or high ranking official; with a painted ceramic face, arms wrists and head dress; wearing a long blue gown and painted ceramic Manchu black boots, 35 cm high, late Qing Dynasty or later Provenance: The Property of a Lady who was given the doll by her Aunt, Mrs Evelyn Roberts, perhaps about 40 years ago. By repute that the doll had been collected by a former Ambassador to Peking, but this tradition has not been proved (however, see the handwritten note attached to the doll).Please note that there are some areas of damage and wear to both doll and clothing; this includes: some loss of pigment, extremity loss to fingers and hands and textile wear to clothing.
