An embroidered red silk satin Han Chinese woman's jacket, mangao An embroidered red silk satin Han Chinese woman's jacket, mangao , 19th century , worn by the wife of a high-ranking offical, loose-fitting with wide sleeves and a side opening from neck to the underarm, embroidered in gold thread with ten five-clawed dragons above a sea wave border, 137cm wide and 95cm high 清 åä¹ä¸–纪 橘红地绣金蟒袄一件 Traditionally, mangao jackets were worn over a dragon skirt, with dragons and phoenix embroidered on the front and back panels. A rigid hooped belt called jiaodai , made of bamboo and covered with red silk satin with ornamental plaques, was worn around the mangao and held in place by loops at the sides of the jackets. A Spanish dress dagger, DE blade 7¼”, marked “Toledo” and “Patente No 20613. Permejo” at forte, with triple fuller for two thirds length, gilt (except for tip) and etched with black, red and green panels of flowers, foliage and birds, cast gilt S shaped crossguard with eagle’s head quillons, eagle pommel and backstrap with black glass eyes, inset composition grip, in its gilt brass sheath panelled on both sides en suite with blade. Near VGC, the gilt and colours generally good. Plate 4
A scarce Third Reich K98 dress bayonet believed to be of the Wachgefolgschaft (Watch followers), plated hilt with chequered grips and HJ inset enamel badge (slight chip), in its black painted scabbard with leather frog. A Hitler Youth early pattern sheath knife by Schaffe Solingen, “blut und ehre” on blade and another similar without motto but stamped “RZM M7/13”, both in their black painted sheaths, all mounted on a wooden shield with painted HJ badge. 60 plus Hailey white metal soldiers. 23 Royal Marines with white helmets, comprising standard bearer, Officer, 8 piece band, and 13 other ranks. All in full dress dark blue uniforms. Together with 7 mounted infantry with rifles, Zulu war red/buff uniforms. Plus 12 16th Lancers dismounted band. 18 Fusilier bandsmen, 3 Fusilier Officers and a standard bearer. All in full dress scarlet uniforms. VGC, a few heads loose.
