Lot 12
The lot features a carved cottonwood kachina doll with polychrome paint from the Hopi Pueblo Native American Indians. The piece is signed on the base and is in good condition. The dancer is holding a rattle in one hand and nothing in the other with finely painted medium height moccasins, dress dance shirt and woven neck adornment. Under the shirt the Kachina’s genitals can be seen, a fertility feature. Overall the vintage 20th Century piece shows a height of 13” by 5.75” wide by 4” deep.

For your consideration is this original Dau-Law-Taine framed Kiowa art circa 2020 and is painted on canvas. Darwin Tsoodle Kiowa (Dau-Law-Taine) is an Native American artist born in Anadarko, Oklahoma and is known for his depictions of Native American Braves on horseback. This is a highly detailed piece of artwork with two Native Braves on horseback with spears and are highly decorated in battle equipment and riding spotted appaloosa horses with wonderful attention to detail given to the contrast of the sunset sky and the battle dress of the warriors. This is a HUGE piece of art set to canvas. The art shows wonderful use of color and excellent style. The piece is signed in the bottom right hand corner reading "Dau-Law-Taine Kiowa copyright 2020. The artwork is in pristine condition with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements are 22 3/4" x 33 1/4".

Featured in this lot we have a Model 1860 ornamental presentation Staff and Field sword originating from the 1870's. This unique sword was used as a U.S. Army Officers dress sword from the Indian Wars in the 1870's. The sword was sold by Baker & McKinney which was a weapon retailer located in New York that sold Model 1860 swords after the civil war. The blade displays a double edged construction and is marked "Baker & McKenne" with intricate embossed designs. The guard shows a unique construction with a folding side and designs showing shield and olive branches. The grip shows a turned wooden handle with a spiraling design. The pommel displays wonderful shield and eagle designs. The piece comes with a metal sheath with brass colored accents. The piece shows a paper tag with information on the sword. The sword shows good condition overall with some light wear due to age. The piece measures 35 1/2" long with the blade measuring 29" long.

Offered in this lot we have a Model 1872 Light Cavalry Officers ornate dress saber originating from the late 1800's. This sword was issued to U.S. cavalry officers during the Indian Wars for use as a dress sword as part of the Army Service Uniform. The sword shows a stainless steel blade, brass guard, and wire wrapped wood handle. The blade shows a lightly curved blade with a fuller along both sides of the blade. The guard shows a basket style design with ornamental leave designs with the back of the guard marked with a eagle and star designs across the piece. The pommel shows a shield and leaf designs. The grips shows a wooden construction with a wire wrapped leather handle. The piece shows its original brass and cloth tassel. The sword comes with a paper tag with information on the piece. The sheath shows a metal construction with brass accents. The sword shows good condition overall with some wear across the piece. Before leaving for the Battle of the Little Bighorn the 7th Cavalry were said to have left their sabers at Fort Abraham Lincoln. The piece measures 38" long with the blade measuring 31 3/4" long.

Beautiful 22” 1920-1925 French Boudoir Doll. Boudoir Doll has a cloth covered face and painted features, inset lashes, blonde floss silk hair set in curled platted style and ringlets. Composition plaster lower limb sections with gold painted high heel shoes and delicately carved arms, painted fingernails. Wearing Victorian style long pink and peach silk dress with coral pink velvet ribbon, pink and peach flower decorate the dress and matching style headpiece. She is wearing a faux-pearl necklace that has survived from the first quarter of the twentieth century. The condition of the doll is generally in original order, the costume is slightly tired and needs cleaning attention but is completely original with some discolouration to parts. The doll has slight chin damage with also a bluntness to the nose. There is paint flecked loss to the limbs and heel damage to right shoe, hands are complete with all fingers intact. Extremely Scarce Antique Alaskan Eskimo Inuit Handmade Seal Skin Fur 13" Doll. This is a lovely vintage Native Alaskan Eskimo doll, made of seal fur, the dolls parka and pants are seal fur or other furs, which could possibly be muskrat, rabbit, beaver or wolf, usual furs used for dolls in Alaska. Gloves and boots are made from Hide/soft leather The hair is black yarn and the facial features eyes, nose and mouth are sewn with yarn. Inuit dolls are made out of soapstone and bone, materials common to the people of northern Alaska, Greenland and Northern Canada. Many are clothed with animal fur or skin. Their clothing articulates the traditional style of dress necessary to survive cold winters, wind, and snow. Dolls could have been gifts to young Inuit girls, to be used as teaching devices and passing down of culture. With these dolls, young girls learn various skills necessary for their survival such as skin preparation, cutting & sewing, proper use of materials, designs and significance of symbols in their cultures. Inuit dolls were enjoyed by both young and old Inuit individuals and give an excellent insight into Inuit culture. 9” Antique Armand Marseille 990 Doll. Antique doll by Armand Marsielle, Germany, from early 20's. The doll has the bisque head and composition body. Her eyes open and close well, and she can turn her head. She wears original underwear, and her socks and leather shoes seem to be of the same age. The hair is ash blonde looks original and made of mohair. Not sure if the silk dress/clothing is original, but it seems to be vintage. She is marked on her neck Armand Marseille Germany 990 A 8/0 M. Where others concocted hybrids from proprietary bits and pieces, he not only designed but also made every part of the Alta sports and competition models, even down to superchargers. The little Alta factory near the Kingston by-pass (only demolished in the early 1960s) was largely put up with his own hands. Completed in 1929, Taylor's first Alta was a 1,074cc sports car. The Alta engine featured cast-iron wet liners, twin overhead camshafts with vertical shaft/skew gear drive, hemispherical combustion chambers, and Nitralloy steel crankshafts, making it one of the more advanced designs of the day. Engines were available in supercharged and un-blown form, producing 76 or 49bhp respectively. Lightness and low build were two of Taylor's objectives, so the frame was under-slung, and even the little 1100s wore 13' brake drums. It is estimated that 13 cars were made, of which it is believed five survive. Taylor was keen to give the impression that his cars were being built in significant numbers, and thus the chassis numbers are not an accurate guide to the actual number of cars completed.According to the information in the history file, this Alta, chassis number '16', was, in fact, only the sixth built and was originally supplied to a Mr R A Gardiner. Originally registered as 'KJ 8421' and painted black with red upholstery, chassis number '16' was the first of a limited series of open four-seaters. It was later converted by the works to its present two-seater configuration with pointed tail, reregistered and repainted with the original colour scheme reversed. It is believed that by 1934 ownership had passed to Douglas L Briault, and both he and J H Bartlett competed in the Alta at Brooklands on a number of occasions between 1934 and 1937. On 23rd June 1934 the Alta was a finisher in the BARC British Empire 300-mile race, and on 14th March 1936 won the second handicap race at the BARC meeting. By the outbreak of WW2 the car was owned by John Jesty, who in 1941 wrote a charming article about his adventures in the Alta for the 69th edition of 'Talking of Sports Cars', a regular feature in The Autocar magazine during the war years (copy on file). Said article includes Jesty's hilarious account of an expedition from Cambridge to London during which the left leg of his trousers got caught in the exposed prop-shaft linkage. The garment was shredded, only to be regurgitated later, covered in oil, onto the dress of a young lady he was taking out for the first time. In 1961 the Alta was acquired in a partially dismantled state by Robin Morgan-Giles, of the famous yachting family. The cylinder block and head castings were missing, having been sent away for repair by a previous owner and never returned. They were still missing when the current owner acquired the car 40 years later from Morgan-Giles, the sale being arranged by the famous gentleman racing driver and historic-car motor dealer, Dan Margulies. Fortunately, Dan's racing mechanic, the Hon. Edward Wodehouse, substituted one half of a new Alfa Romeo 8C block/head casting, which happened to fit the Alta crankcase perfectly. This increased the capacity to 1,500cc, which meant fitting new pistons and con-rods, but all the other Alta internals, including the camshafts, camshaft drive, valve-gear and crankshaft, were incorporated into the rebuild, as was the secondary supercharger from Dan's Grand Prix Maserati 4CL. While in current ownership, the car has been displayed at the Cartier Style et Luxe Concours at Goodwood Festival of Speed, 1996; VSCC Silverstone Spring Start in April 2003 at the celebration of the Alta marque's 75th Anniversary; and used in both VSCC competition with success and for road use. Following a period of storage and having not been used for several years the engine has recently been thoroughly re-commissioned by Edward Way and the bodywork refreshed by Ben Brown. Details of the works carried out over the years, as well as a substantial photographic record, may be found in the accompanying extensive history (four box files), which also includes copious correspondence with previous owners (perusal highly recommended).
