Extremely rare Francis Francis signed companion leather fly wallet to the book A Book on Angling (1867),- with retailer paper label Charles Farlow Maker 191 The Strand (retailers) being the personal wallet of Mr Charles Farlow and given to Mr A W Marsh later Managing Director of Farlow - signed by Francis Francis to the bottom of his Introduction title page - the wallet comes with six double sided fly and cast pages, each with facing text page printed with months March to September and General Flies post September -giving pattern details (no.1 - 32) and how best to fish them for each of the opposing pouches - some containing a selection of flies to gut casts together with 2x felt pads with 4 flies. The introduction title page giving advice and detail on fishing of the accompanying flies and consult his book "Book of Angling" to learn more about the flies and how to dress them. Note: the wallet comes with a hand written details with reference to Francis Francis "My 'Old friend' - and comes from the estate of the late Mr A W Marsh who joined Farlow's, Pall Mall in 1913 and became Managing Director after the last member of the Farlow family died and comes from the direct descendent of the late Mr Marsh - the note reads "Fly Book of Early Sixties (1860's) with printed notes signed in ink by my old friend Francis Francis-given to me by CN June 6, 1922 sent on to me when we were at the White Swan Middlebarn"
Superb Collection of 60x Edward Kublin Hand Tied Fully Dressed Salmon Flies: comprising the most popular patterns that were fished in the late 18th C and 19th C - the flies are mounted on 5x cards with hand written details and signed by Kublin 12"x 19"- and are ready for framing - this must be the ultimate collection of Salmon flies and offers a great opportunity for the serious collector to acquire this unique collection of flies Note: The majority of the flies offered are made from materials from Megan Boyd's Fly dressing materials which came into the possession of Edward via Mr Richard Millington- Jefferies (proprietor of the Gun and Tackle shop in Rothes at the time) who purchased them from a gillie on the River Brora to whom Megan Boyd had left them. Edward Kublin - Master Fly tier and member of The Fly Dressers Guild - entered only one fly dressing competition in 2002 and won the Open Salmon Class - and like Megan Boyd was self-taught using the same book as Megan Boyd namely the book by Pryce-Tannatt on How to Dress Salmon Flies. Kublin also tied the flies for Colin Innes's book- The Lost Salmon Flies of Balmoral.Edward now 81 years young has been dressing classic salmon flies for over 60 years and has gained a reputation worldwide for producing high quality salmon flies

ALTHAUS ERNST FREIHERR VON: (1890-1946) German Oberleutnant of World War I, a Flying Ace officially credited with nine victories. One of the original Fokker Eindekker pilots, known as the Fokker Scourge, Althaus was awarded with the Pour le Mérite (Blue Max), the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern and the Iron Cross First & Second Class. Vintage signed postcard photograph of Althaus standing outdoors in a full length pose wearing his dress uniform and medals. Published by Willi Sanke of Berlin during World War I, numbered 382 and with a printed caption at the base. Signed ('Frh. v. Althaus') in bold black fountain pen ink with his name alone to a largely clear area of the image. Two very minor stray ink marks to the extreme right edge, VG
SECOND BOER WAR: Small selection of A.Ls.S. (two incomplete) by various British military officers, all of whom served in the Second Boer War, comprising Algernon Stanley (1874-1962) British Colonel, commanded the Welsh Brigade during the Second Boer War. A.L.S., Algernon Stanley, one page, 8vo, Rustfontein, n.d. ('Monday'), to Colonel Neeld, forwarding a letter from Mrs. Neeld which he had brought from Cape Town and had hoped to give to his correspondent personally, 'but I have to join Col. Ridley at Norval's Pont tomorrow for a few days' and also adding that he has left a box at the booking office in Bloemfontein; Ulick de Rupe Roche (1856-1919) British Lieutenant-Colonel who served in the Second Boer War. Concluding four pages of an A.L.S., Ulick Roche, four pages, 8vo, Bagshot, n.d., to an unidentified correspondent, discussing military matters following his service in South Africa, in part, '…..There is room for improvement in rifle which might be made shorter and better sights and much room for improvement in dress & equipment, something like a game keepers bag which could be moved from one shoulder to another would carry all that a man required including ammunition. The greatest fault I observed in the S.A. war was the selection of Column Commanders who were in many cases too young…..The strings were too tightly held at Pretoria, and the great fear of even a slight reverse prevented enterprise….', annotated in pencil in the hand of the noted autograph collector Ray Rawlins who observes 'Very interesting Boer War commentary'; Ian Hamilton (1853-1947) British General, Chief Staff Officer (Assistant Adjutant General) to George S. White VC at the outbreak of the Second Boer War and later Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief Lord Kitchener at the conclusion of the war. Concluding two pages of an A.L.S., Ian Hamilton, two pages, 8vo, n.p., 4th November 1902, to an unidentified correspondent, stating, in part, '…..It might be added that if any question of a new rifle should arise his system would receive a thorough consideration & test'; Alfred Keogh (1857-1936) British Lieutenant General and Medical Doctor with the British Army, Commander of No. 3 General Hospital near Cape Town during the Second Boer War and later Director General Army Medical Services 1905-10, 1914-18. Brief A.L.S., A Keogh, one page, 8vo, War Office, 8th March 1915, to [William] Taylor, in full, 'Please see Bedford's answer'. With an A.L.S. by William Taylor, British Surgeon-General and Keogh's predecessor as Director General Army Medical Services, to the verso of the integral leaf, in pencil, Cornwall, n.d. (March 1915), to Mrs. Hodgson, sending the Director General's reply with the report he had ordered to be made by Surgeon General Bedford and commenting 'It is much as I expected and I have no doubt whatever that his report is absolutely correct in every way as he is one of our best and most careful officers….' A fine vintage signed sepia 10 x 14 photograph of Esher standing in a formal three quarter length pose wearing his full military dress uniform and various medals. Photograph by Lafayette of London and bearing their pencil credit to the lower border. Signed by Esher in bold, dark fountain pen ink to the lower border and dated 9th October 1907 in his hand.
