LATE 18TH/EARLY 19THC AMERICAN PRESENTATION DRESS SWORD - IRISH INTEREST a fascinating sword with an Irish Wolfhound pommel, engraved with motto Gentle when stroked/Fierce when provoked, with a wire bound green stained grip. The cross guard engraved Cathedral Members of the Corps 1DV (very feint), To Colonel Smyth, and mounted with a small glass roundel with Harp and Crown motifs (missing glass roundel to reverse). The blade with various engraving (not easy to see) including a figure holding a sword and shield, flowers etc. Blade point missing and blade in poor condition. 89cms long, Blade 71cms long. *A similar sword was sold by Bamfords Auctioneers on the 31st of Oct, 2018, the motto and Wolfhound would signify an origin to an Irish heritage battalion, possibly the 9th Regiment New York State Militia. Though nothing certain can be said about the Cathedral Members of the Corps of 1DV, it is possibly linked to the Cathedral of St Patrick, Manhatten, New York, that was informally founded in 1810, as part of the Archdiocese of New York that was founded in 1784.
CEREMONIAL DRESS SWORD - WILKINSON a ceremonial dress sword with a brass hilt and pommel, and with attached sword knot. With a Wilkinson engraved blade, and with leather and brass scabbard. 95cms long *This was acquired by either Lt-Col John Harvey-Kelly or Lt Col Harvey St George Harvey-Kelly, and has passed through the family.

THE UNIFORMS OF VICE ADMIRAL SIR EDWARD ANSON KCB. Comprising a No 1c Dress double breasted jacket and trousers by Gieves of London with Pilots wings to the cuff and Vice Admiral's epaulettes by Gieves and Hawkes, the jacket with medal ribbons for KCB, Korea, United Nations Korea, Naval General Service and Jubilee 1977 Medals. Similar No 2 Dress comprising tailcoat, navy waistcoat and trousers with gold braid stripes. A Mess jacket with Rear Admirals insignia, two waistcoats and trousers. Vice Admiral Sir Edward Anson KCB had a long, varied and enormously successful career in the royal Navy working as a test pilot helping develop the Buccaneer attack aircraft and Captain H.M.S. Ark Royal. Entering Royal Naval College Dartmouth in 1943 he was 'loaned' to Blackburn Aircraft limited to help develop the Buccaneer, on his return to the Navy he commanded the first R.N. Buccaneer squadron. He served in a variety of capacities as his career developed including commanding the first Inter-Service Hovercraft Unit. In 1976 he took command of H.M.S. Ark Royal being promoted to Rear Admiral in 1980 and becoming Flag Officer Naval Air Command Yeovilton.
THE UNIFROMS OF CAPTAIN ROBERT E. LLOYD R.N. A collection of naval uniforms comprising two sets of No 1 Dress, jackets and trousers, both suuplied by Gieves of London, one jacket dated December 1965. A No 2. Mess Dress jacket and trousers with gold braid edged trousers and blue 'undress' waistcoat and a further jacket, also supplied by Gieves. An 'Undress' Tailcoat from Gieves. A heavy overcoat with fixed epaulets from Austin Reed and two Caps. Captain Robert E. Lloyd joined Dartmouth at the age of 13 and had a long and successful career being awarded the D.S.C. and bar amongst other awards. He served aboard H.M.S. Hood and served as an anti-submarine officer. His final posting was to H.M.S. Vernon where he was Captain of the training school.
