In 1772 she played the role of Jane Shore in Nicholas Rowe's 1714 play The Tragedy of Jane Shore and was painted in this role by Sir Joshua Reynolds the following year (Mannings Cat. No: 856, Fig: 1082). She was described as having fine, perfect features with a long nose and small well-formed mouth together with long auburn hair. Nine various porcelain and glass figures to include two Lladró figures, a young girl in a nightdress and a young boy clown with a dog, height approx 16cm, four Nao examples, comprising three harlequin-style musicians and a girl with basket of flowers, a Venetian-style glass figure of a lady with red dress and inset gold foil, height 22cm, a rabbit and a clown figure (9). CONDITION REPORT The Nao figure of the girl with a basket of flowers has a crude repair to the hat.
A 1960s full-length wedding dress, with fitted bodice and V-neck collar, long sleeves with long pointed buttoned cuffs, with train, bust approx 36", waist approx 26", with the original large rectangular net and lace veil (2). CONDITION REPORT The bag the dress and veil were wrapped in had a note inscribed 'My wedding dress and veil 1961'. Some light staining, including to the hem of the dress and cuffs. There is a small paper note pinned to the interior neck of the dress, stating 'We regret that the stains on this article cannot be removed, although every effort has been made', which would imply that the dress was professionally cleaned after being worn. Further paper label attached to inner neckline with safety pins. Possibly hand made, unlined, with hand sewn hem. No labels. Creased from storage. The veil also with some light staining. Otherwise good condition.
A c1920s pale green beaded evening dress with single off-centre front pleat detail, heavily beaded all over with small white beads, with floral and feather details in blue and gold beads, with further blue and gold beaded detail to the V-neck and hem, bust approx 36", waist approx 36". CONDITION REPORT Some staining, including staining under arms and to hem. Several patches of the background white beading missing - mainly around the feather and frond detailing at the waist, each patch approx 10cm long. Some fraying and missing beading to the hem. Some mismatched beads in odd colours.
A group of textiles from various eras, to include a c1920s chiffon beaded jacket, a c1930s peach silk and lace negligee/dressing gown, a circa 1930s chiffon and black lace evening dress, a Victorian yellow silk and heavily embroidered shawl in the Oriental style, with long silk fringing, a similar period ivory and black embroidered shawl with cream silk fringing and a c1920s brown silk with lace overlay evening dress, all for project or study work. CONDITION REPORT The beaded jacket appears to be in ok condition, with some beading missing. All other items are in poor condition and extremely fragile, with rips, tears and pieces missing, as well as oxidising/perishing to the lace. The shawls have large tears to the edges where the fringing is attached to the edges of the shawl. The negligee/dressing gown has many tears and pieces cut out from the fabric. The black lace evening dress has many holes, rusted buttons, perishing to the lace, etc. The brown silk dress is extremely fragile/friable, with extensive deterioration to the lace and silk lining. The neckline and straps of the dress are particularly damaged.
