Lot 628

Honourable Artillery Company Uniforms. A scarce example of the Artillery Full Dress, possibly for a senior NCO, of near-officer quality. Fine blue cloth with scarlet collar and cuffs, edged all round, and in the backseams, with scarlet piping. Gilt HAC buttons and gold-embroidered collar-grenades. Narrow gold cord edging to collar and cuffs, the latter forming a trefoil above. Shoulder-straps of blue cloth edged with scarlet piping, bearing broad gold-embroidered grenades. Minor stitching faults to collar-seam, minimal moth damage, otherwise VGC ... a white Drill Jacket of the HAC Infantry battalion, named to ‘Penfold'. (2 items)

Lot 639

Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Officer's Full Dress Attributed uniform. A rare mid 19th Century attributed Full Dress uniform, the tunic of blue melton cloth, with gold bullion lace and cord decoration to the cuff. Gold bullion gimp cords are repeated to the seventeen ornate loops which decorate each breast, these are tailored with plain gilt dome buttons. The back of the tunic has further lace and cord. The interior with silk lining and old ink label "Cornet Baker"... Overalls of matching material, are decorated with gold bullion cord and lace of Regimental pattern. The bullion remains fresh. The jacket with some moth damage to the arms, the overalls with some moth damage to inside legs. (2 items) The rank of Cornet of the British Army was abolished in 1871 with the rank of Sub Lieutenant and later Second Lieutenant. Pre this period one Officer by the name of Baker appears. Captain Granville Edwin Lloyd Baker who was commissioned Cornet on the 22nd March 1861, Lieutenant 25th August 1865 and Captain 1876. He resigned his commission in 1878. He resided at Hardwicke Court Gloucestershire and in 1898 was appointed High Sheriff. He died in 1924.

Victorian 10th Hussars Pair of Officer's Swords by Wilkinson of London. A fine and rare pair of swords, representing both Dress and Levee Dress patterns. The light cavalry pattern dress sword with single edged slightly curved blade, with etched decoration of a crowned reverse entwined VR Cypher, Regimental device and family crest. The forte with the cutler's details of Wilkinson Sword and the blade bears the number "30639" (1891). The guard of regulation pattern with three bar open guard with shagreen grip. Housed in steel scabbard. The overall condition is near VGC, etching clear, some wear and knocks to the scabbard ... Accompanied by the Levee Pattern sword. The narrow blade again etched with a crowned reverse entwined "VR" cypher, the reverse with matching family crest. The forte with Wilkinson sword cutler's details (blade not numbered). The hilt with three bar open guard. Housed in correct pattern narrow scabbard. GC Clean condition (2 items)

CONDITION REPORT Front lace modesty frill - the lace has an old repair. Tears to inner linings. Seam adrift where lace meets neck. Stain of approx 1cm diameter and small hole approx 1mm diameter to back hip, minor wear to hem.

A c1872 cream silk taffeta wedding dress comprising petticoat, a full skirt with train, a shorter overskirt trimmed with pleating and fringing and a square-necked bolero jacket with full flaring sleeves, with silk satin and silk fringing trim. CONDITION REPORT Minor stain to front of bodice, back of bodice has four areas of staining approx 1cm diameter, sleeves have water stains to bows and brown stains to both arms, none over 1cm diameter. Skirt has similar stains throughout - mostly to train. Fragmented ripping throughout to petticoat.
