A Canton enamel pen box and cover, circa 1880, the lid decorated with figures playing Go, the interior with two compartments, each side with vignettes of birds against ground of compact bats. Width 19 cm, height 6.5 cm, depth 9.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The surface of the lid is in good order with only very slight rubbing to the top right hand corner. However the top left hand side has a 3 cm x 8 mm shallow chip and there is a smaller 1 cm x 8 mm shallow chip to the interior rim of the lid. There is a tiny glaze chip to the seated figure in the middle on her dress at the fold of her knee and the second figure from the left has a small glazed chip to her blue apron. The orange border around the rim is slightly erased. The box itself is in good order with only very light rubbing to the corner edges although nothing that would distract.
