AFTER SIR ANTHONY VAN DYCK "Henrietta Maria (Wife of Charles I)", a portrait study, half length, oil on canvas, 77 cm x 63 cm CONDITION REPORTS To the naked eye, the condition appears overall good though there is craquelure to the paintwork pretty much throughout and the piece has been re-lined. The frame is basically sound though arguably requires some attention. There is a stencil No. to the frame verso "751SD" and a small white on blue label No. "88". Under UV light there are several areas of repainting above and around the head to the darker areas and also to hair detail and to detail on the dress. See images for further detail.Additional information - the piece has clearly been re-lined so a little difficult to tell. There is a browning to the edge of the canvas where it has been cut and signs of white matter underneath the paint. The stretcher appears to be 19th Century but possibly earlier. Of course there is nothing to say that this is the original stretcher for the painting though it appears to be. The canvas below has the appearance of some age suggesting that it may be 18th Century or earlier though this, in this instance, cannot be guaranteed. See images for further detail.
