Errol Flynn signed Christmas Greeting from Fison Airwork inscribed Thanks Phil great ride Errol Flynn. Philip Hale, lived and worked from the mid-50s to the mid-60s in Jamaica as a helicopter crop spraying pilot. He was based in Charlotte Town, Prince Edward Island. At Christmas he would dress up as Santa and deliver presents by helicopter to families not easy to reach, and the children especially loved that. Philip had joined the Royal Airforce just before the war, and after getting his 'wings' was sent to Canada to train other pilots. After the war, he trained as a helicopter pilot and travelled the world crop spraying, eventually ending up in Jamaica on a long-term contract spraying bananas. Sometime in mid-1959 he was approached by Errol Flynn who asked him to fly himself and his young girlfriend up into the mountains to his retreat, as he was unable to accomplish the journey any other way because of ill health. Philip stayed overnight before flying back and later received this card thanking him. However, he never received payment because Errol Flynn died in October of that same year. Philip eventually gave up crop spraying but continued to fly helicopters, both as a personal pilot to one or two prominent people, and also as a 'taxi' out of Kidlington airport, transporting stars of stage and film to their various venues. On 30th January 1965, Philip was commissioned to fly his helicopter following the train carrying Winston Churchill's body from Waterloo to Bladon, so a photographer from Paris Match could take photographs. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £4.99, EU from £6.99, Rest of World from £8.99
