An Andeman Islands "Full Dress" for a Woman, made of bands of vegetable fibre decorated with fringes of stripped bark, and comprising two belts for attaching to the waist and two pairs of wrist/ankle bands; Two Albums of Photographs "Reminiscences" Compiled by Charles Wilfrid Hext 1906-1907 and 1909-1910, the first showing natives and scenes from the Andaman Islands, including native women wearing examples of the stripped bark "full dress", the second showing scenes in Pakistan including photographs of the Khojak Tunnel, Chaman Bazaar, and Ziarat signed by Bremner. A Collection of Naga, Assam Tribal Dress, comprising two Abor basket weave helmets, one trimmed with animal fur (possibly bear) and set with boar`s tusks, an apron made from cowrie shells and red stained bristles backed by woven brown cloth, a pair of similarly made wristlets and pair of anklets, two collars of boar`s tusks and shells centred by cornelian type beads, and two necklaces made from elongated tubular shells and cornelian type beads.(11) These items are illustrated in the photograph albums in Lot 360

An Abor, Assam Byop, made up of eleven brass discs, each of 8.5cm diameter, decorated with concentric rings overset with three twisted cross members, and with a bent suspender loop attached to a cord band.**This was classed as full dress for a young spinster of the Abor Tribe, and can be seen illustrated in the photograph album of lot 360; A Naga Silver and Amber Bead Necklace, with a deep curved pendant applied with filigree and bell decoration; and Three Naga Black Bead Necklaces, each made up of small discs of horn or wood (5)

A Uniform to Major J W B Hext, 4th King`s Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster), comprising Number 1 Dress Blues Tunic and two pairs of trousers, Number 2 Dress khaki tunic and trousers, battledress blouse and trousers, mess dress jacket, waistcoat and trousers, pair of black leather boots, a Sam Browne belt, and an 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers sword with steel scabbard, leather service scabbard and leather cloth slip case, all contained in a black japanned tin trunk with brass label engraved "C H Hext".

Marjorie Taylder (b. 30 March 1730, d. 25 October 1795 at Lostwithiel). One of the sons of Samuel and Majorie Hext was John Hext (b.15 Nov 1766) and who was presented with the silver hot water urn and the pair of neo-classical two-handled vases also included in this sale. John Hext is the great great great great grandfather of the present vendors.

SIR WILLIAM BEECHEY R.A. (1755-1839) AFTER SIR JOSHUA REYNOLDS PRA - Portrait of Mrs Mary Robinson, half length, wearing a black dress and hat, a landscape beyond, inscribed `Mrs Mary Robinson`, oils on canvas in carved giltwood frame, 29" x 24". (see illustration). This painting was one of a number of copies painted by Beechey after Reynolds which according to James Northcote so impressed Reynolds that when he saw them side by side he declared he had great difficulty in recognising his own works.
