William Francis Vere Kebbell (1888-1963), Portrait of Joanna Denise Vere Kebbell, half length wearing a blue velvet dress seated before an open window, signed top right, pastel, 59 x 50cm Notes: William Kebbell was born in Queensland, Australia in 1888 and forged a successful carrer as a portrait painter in London. He was a member of the Ipswich Art club from 1922 - 1926 and also exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. He specialised in pastels and was a member of the Pastel society, Royal Institute of oil painters; he also found a commercial outlet for his work through the Walker Gallery. The sitter in this work is Joanna Kebbell; the daughter of William Kebbell. She was an accomplished ballerina who trained with the Bolshoi. She also enjoyed a successful career as a dance teacher and choreographer.

A collection of china wares, to include a pair of Meissen lidded vases, 24.5 cm high, with applied forget-me-not decoration, a pair of dresden chocolate cups each with bow decoration, a Derby figure (possibly Juno), a Volkstedt figure of a maiden in 18th Century dress, a Dresden-style figure of lady with bow and a pair of Samson putti figures each carrying baskets of flowers CONDITION REPORTS The Meissen lidded vases both have significant losses to the forget-me-nots throughout and one has a crack / firing fault chip to the bottom of the main body. The chocolate cups have significant damage to both. The blue one has been badly repaired and reglued. The yellow one has a chip to the main body as well as the lid and damgage to both bows. Derby figure - head has been off and re-attached. Damage to the dress. Peacock's head has been off and further damage. She is missing something from her hand. The maiden has damage to the frame she is leaning on as well as her hand. Damage throughout. Lady with bow has had significant damage and is badly restored. Samson putti have losses to the flowers, etc. All items have general wear and tear conducive with age and use. All items in need of a good clean. All have damage as detailed. A gentleman's 9 carat yellow gold half hunter watch in slim dress case, with a keyless wind Rolex lever movement, the silvered dial with black roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial (London import 1913) engraved on rear of case "Cecil H. Poulton" numbered 6011089, the inside case numbered 565084, housed on a 9 carat gold chain, total weight approx. 55.6 oz CONDITION REPORTS The movement does not appear to run. Hands set OK. There do not appear to be dents to the case rims at the back. Diameter approx. 4.5 cm. Gross weight of watch without chain approx. 44 g. Weight of chain approx. 11.8 g. Links are hallmarked 9K. Condition appears sound but worn. NB. the face has no glass.
