GEORGES MORRIN (German 1874-1950); an Art Deco bronze figure mounted on a stepped white onyx rectangular plinth depicting a scantily clad young woman with a hoop, signed, height 27.5cm. (D) CONDITION REPORT: Some rubbing to the gilding noticeably on her dress, the hoop is slightly misshapen, a few tiny losses to the white onyx base which may be associated to the figure as the bronze figure is set slightly off centre. Edwardian manuscript children's book, The Pawky Pawk's Book of Beasts, illustrated with surreal ink drawings throughout. The book features 32 illustrations of fantastical creatures, each accompanied by a brief satirical description and a page of comic verse. There is, for example, a creature who 'is so inflated with the sense of his own importance, that his feet only touch the ground when he condescends'. The work is housed in an exercise book, inscribed 'Unnatural History', belonging to Joyce Mary Williams. The main title page records the illustrator as 'Jimmy Smite' (the final illustration in the book depicts this figure), and the work is 'Dedicated by kind permission to Joyce and Denis by The Author and The Illustrator, 1905, Swanage and London'. The book includes two additional illustrations of beasts, loosely inserted, one being a watercolour, the other with accompanying verse. Contents generally good and bright throughout, the outer paper covers worn as found. Together with an archive of letters/drafts/photographs/ephemera (including photographs of Joyce), some of it relating to the Williams & Norgate publishing firm (Joyce was the daughter of one of the owners); Edwardian letters and drawings by children; genealogical research/correspondence, and a curious late-Victorian photograph of a "ghost" (lady in Georgian dress)
