Giuseppe Franchi was descended from the Carrarese dynasty of sculptors that included Antonio, Francesco and Isidoro Francesco, and was a pupil of Giovanni Battista Foggini (1652-1725). Pietro Franchi specialised in marble copies of famous contemporary or indeed classical sculpture.
