Royal Gambia Artillery Victorian dress pouch. A good and rare pre 1901 example of dark blue melton cloth ground, the face with gold embroidered Royal Arms and oak leaves and acorns embroidered above a gilt artillery field piece. Below the Royal Arms, a padded bi-part crimson velvet cushion scroll with a further cushion embroidered in gold “Royal Gambia Artillery”. Bullion slightly toned, with minor moth to the reverse. Complete with fire gilt rings. GC.
Badge. Hampshire Regiment Officer’s helmet plate circa 1901-14. A good gilt example converted whilst in service from a Victorian plate. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the black velvet centre bearing silver wreath enclosing gilt Tiger. To the base of the wreath, an applied silver tri-part scroll inscribed “The Hampshire Regiment”. Three loops to reverse. Centre’s fixing wires absent otherwise VGC. (KK 249) This is the actual piece photographed as No. 249 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.
Badge. 32nd Middlesex Rifle Volunteers (“The Volunteer Guards”) Victorian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1860-68. A fine rare die-stamped blackened example with silver highlights worn on the leather helmet. Crowned Maltese cross with hobnail arms and raised rim; central lined disc bearing VG cypher. Three of four wires to reverse. VGC Formed in 1860 with the first HQ at 38 Conduit Street, by 1863 at Burlington House. This famous and exclusive corps were comprised of men six feet tall or over, earning them the soubriquet, “The Six Foot Guard”. The corps was later attached to the 11th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers (St. George’s) but finally disbanded in 1868. In full dress a plumed leather helmet was worn to accompany a scarlet tunic.

Crowned star mounted with circlet inscribed “4th West York Militia”; crowned rose to domed centre. Reverse retains both original horizontal loops. VGC Became 4th Battalion PWO West Yorkshire Regt. on Friday 1st July 1881.This is the actual piece photographed as No. 1193 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.

This full length portrait depicts the Drum Major of “The Queen’s” Regiment wearing full dress scarlet tunic and blue cloth helmet. Across his shoulder the Drum Majors sash bearing Battle Honours of the Regiment. To the background the Regimental drummers can be seen. Signed right corner. Now framed and glazed. Colours bright detail good. Overall size 16 x 22 inches.
Royal Artillery Officer’s full dress busby circa 1928-39 A fine example by Hammond & Co. Ltd, 465 Oxford Street, London. Dark brown sable body with red bag. On the opposite side to the bag, a gilt flaming grenade, the ball mounted with Royal Arms over ‘Ubique’ scroll and gun over ‘Quo fas et gloria ducunt’ scroll and complete with white plume. VGC except bag has several moth holes., gilt on badge worn.
Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment Officer’s Dress Cap A good pre Great War example of the blue peaked forage cap by Hawkes, “late 14 Piccadilly” c.1914. Scarlet band and welt in crown seam, plain patent leather peak, fine bi-metal cap-badge and mounted buttons to narrow chinstrap. Buttons tarnished, otherwise VGC. Hawkes had moved from Piccadilly to Savile Row in 1912.
Royal Artillery Officer’s Victorian Torin Cap. A rare example. Blue cloth with narrow gold piping to crown and flaps. A seven-flame grenade at the front in gold embroidery. Black cotton lining. GC. The 1894 Dress Regulations specifically mention the grenade being mounted to the front of the cap.

Regimental badge of the Garb in prominent gold embroidery, against a scarlet backing cloth. Gold embroidered edging to peak. Narrow patent leather chinstrap attached by Royal Arms buttons. Quilted lining of crimson silk, the leather headband with gold tooled ANC monogram. Traces of patent leather on crown, otherwise GC.
WW1 Royal Marine Light Infantry Gallipoli Casualty Officer’s Dress Cap. A very rare example worn by Lieutenant Stanton Degge Wilmot-Sitwell who was Killed in Action at Gallipoli in July 1915. The peaked cap is of dark blue cloth with scarlet cap band, this is mounted with a bullion and silvered globe and laurel and above this a gilt bugle. Small rounded peak of black patent leather and complete with chinstrap. The interior with crimson silk lining and leather sweatband. Minor age wear and some age congealing to chinstrap and peak. ... Contained in original metal storage tin, with brass engraved name plate. Lieutenant Stanton Degge Wilmot-Sitwell was commissioned into RMLI on the 29th August 1914 and promoted Lieutenant in March 1915. After service at the RM Depot Victory he embarked for Gallipoli landing on the 28th April 1915 and was Killed in Action on the 4th July 1915 at the age of 18.

Battledress Blouse, this retaining the padded Parachute qualification wing, and medal ribbons as previous listed. Also full “Royal Canadian Signals” cloth titles. Scarlet serge “frock” tunic, with white facings to the collar, cuffs and shoulder-straps, the latter each bearing Victoria Major’s crown in white metal. Five silvered buttons, of Regimental pattern, but smaller, to the front. Patch breast pockets fastened with small buttons. Sphinx collar-badges in silver embroidery. A slot at the waist to allow a sword-hook to be worn from a webbing brace ... Braided blue patrol jacket of infantry pattern, edged all round with one-inch black mohair braid. Four loops of black gimp each side, forming eyes and double drops, fastened with woven olivettes. Shoulder-straps edged with narrow braid and bearing QVC in silver embroidery. Backseam ornaments of gimp forming trefoils at top and bottom, and two figures-of-eight. Plain pockets and black quilted lining ... The pointed cuffs with a Russia braid crows-foot in the angle and edged with a double row of braid, the upper one forming an Austrian knot. A green ribbon of the Volunteer Decoration on the chest. Drab cotton lining ... Companion scarlet V-fronted waistcoat, edged with silver Russia and with hooks and eyes and studs. Major’s rank-distinctions to collar and sleeves and retaining fine quality Regimental collar grenades of gold embroidery, mounted with silvered Castles. Complete with Regimental gilt buttons and quilted lining to the interior. Shoulder-cords lacking rank badges slight dulling and minor stitching faults.

Eton College OTC Officer’s Service Dress Tunic. A rare example of this unique colour service dress made by Tom Brown for an Eton “beak”. Elcho grey serge, with plain lapel collar and patch pockets. White metal KC Rifles buttons to front and pocket-flaps. Pointed cuffs edged with light blue cloth piping. Shoulder-straps fitted with good bimetal badges for a Captain. Tailor’s label named to A M McNeile Esq. Minor moth damage, wear to right armpit. Archibald McNeile (1878-1937) was a master at Eton 1902-33. He was appointed 2nd Lieut. in the school corps in Jan. 1910 and relinquished his commission, by then a Major, in Aug. 1919.
Welsh. Montgomeryshire Yeomanry Officer’s Victorian Mess Dress. A rare circa 1860’s example. Scarlet cloth jacket with black velvet sloping collar and pointed cuffs, edged all round with silver Russia braid forming an eye at the bottom corners. Hooks and eyes, and white metal studs to front. The cuffs edged with silver chain-gimp. A chain-gimp loop on shoulders, forming a double eye at outer end, and fastened with a white metal button bearing the Welsh Dragon. Two similar buttons above each cuff. Quilted lining with small label inscribed ‘LBW Esq’ ... and companion collarless waistcoat of lightweight scarlet material, edged with thin silver Russia forming eyes at the bottom corners, and white metal studs. Three pockets also trimmed with Russia forming trefoils at ends. Lining inscribed in ink ‘LBW’. Minimal moth. Also a pair of overalls with wide silver lace band of Regimental Pattern. RAF Interwar Air Officer’s Full Dress Parade Tunic A rare example worn by an Air Commodore. Blue grey cloth, the collar edged with narrow gold ‘Vellum’ pattern lace and a row of oakleaves in gold embroidered. Shoulder-straps embroidered with Eagle device and a small laurel wreath around the button. Gold bullion embroidered Pilot’s Wings on left breast and loop provision for medals. Seven gilt buttons to front and two to reverse at the waist. To each cuff, Air Commodore gold bullion Vellum rank lace. Lining AF, small moth hole to back. Good clean condition. ... Accompanied by full dress overalls these with the tailor’s label and name “B.W. Sheaby”. (2 items)
Scottish. 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Victorian glengarry badge circa 1868-81. A fine and scarce die-stamped brass example. Within thistle sprays, a crowned circlet inscribed “Sutherland Highlanders” with “93” to voided centre; below on a tri-part scroll inscribed “Cape of Good Hope” over “Balaklava” scroll. Reverse with brass loops East and West. VGC (KK 567) Became 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on Friday 1st July, 1881 whilst under the command of Lt. Col. Ewan Henry Davidson Macpherson (Reward for distinguished services). This is the actual piece photographed as No. 567 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.
Irish. North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry Edwardian head-dress badge. A fine scarce die-stamped silvered example. Crowned circlet inscribed “North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry” and ornamented at the base with shamrocks. Mounted to the centre, a Maid of Erin Harp on a burnished domed ground. Two loops to reverse. VGC (KK 1393) Raised on 7th March 1900 as North Irish Horse for the Boer War, 7th January 1902 redesignated North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry, 1908 reverted to North Irish Horse.
Indian Army. 9th Bengal Native Infantry Victorian Officer’s head-dress badge circa 1882-85. Fine British made die-stamped white metal oval strap “Bengal Native Infantry” with “9” to centre all resting on tri-part scroll inscribed “Bhurtpore” “Afganistan 78-80” “Sobraon”. Three loops to reverse. VGC The title “Native” was dropped from the title after 1882. Became 9th Gurkha Rifles in 1901
Coldstream Guards WW2 Officer’s 1945 Birmingham hallmarked silver Service Dress cap badge. A fine small example by JRG&S (JR Gaunt and Sons). Facetted silver Garter Star mounted with pierced Garter on a blue enamel ground; to the centre, the Cross of St. George in red translucent enamel. Two stout loops to reverse. VGC (KK 898)

An Omega 18ct white gold and diamond set rear winding lady's dress bracelet wristwatch, the signed square silvered dial with black baton shaped numerals and black hands, the bracelet mounted with two rows of six graduated marquise diamonds, otherwise the square dial and the tapered bracelet bordered by circular cut diamonds, import mark London 1965, case width approx 1.2cm, total length approx 17.5cm, with a Garrard & Co case.
A late 19th Century French parcel-silvered, gilt brass and Limoges enamel mounted carriage alarm clock, of large proportions, the fine quality eight day movement with grande sonnerie striking on two gongs, alarm and push repeat, the large-sized jewelled lever escapement with engine turned decoration, the backplate numbered '3057', the rectangular black ground enamel dial with white enamel numerals and gilt inscribed 'Tiffany & Co Paris', above subsidiary alarm dial with white Arabic numerals, framed by a finely painted scene of a bird flying above a castle and gentleman in 16th Century dress accompanied by a dog, the enamel side panels with medieval lady and gallant on horseback, he holding a horn, she with hawk and dog, the glazed case with reeded swing handle and corner columns, three position setting lever to base inscribed 'Hours & Quarters', 'Silent' and 'Quarters Only', height approx 25.5cm, with winding key (minor faults and striking mechanism not working at present).
A 9ct gold cased keyless wind open-faced dress watch, the jewelled lever movement detailed 'Marc Favre Precision', the silvered dial with black Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds, the case interior numbered '253514', the case decorated with engraved borders, import mark London 1927, case diameter approx 4.5cm.

A variant portrait of that was exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts, Winter Exhibition 1928 no. 23 Shannon initially studied under Sir Edward Poynter Bt. PRA., and increasingly turned his attention to portraiture. He was a founding member of the Society of Portrait Painters in 1891. The purpose of this Society was to display and promote the variety of portraits available from a younger generation of portrait painters. Over the next few years Shannon's profile rose rapidly. Along with John Singer Sargent, and James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Shannon was considered by Munsey's Magazine in 1895 to be one of the three most 'distinguished American portrait painters to have flourished side by side in this generation among the mists and glooms of London'By the mid 1890's Shannon was at the height of his powers, elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1897. An American commentator of the time recorded 'As to Mr Shannon, his career in England has been simply phenomenal. Almost unknown three or four years ago he has, with his grace, elegance and refinement climbed to the very top of the ladder'

She had met him two years previously while she had been attending the South Kensington School of Needlework.Florence was painted on a number of occasions by Shannon, at different periods of her life. Two portraits for instance in a private UK collection depict her in the years after her marriage; and as a young mother with her daughter Kitty. cf. also a portrait of Florence holding a guitar, c.1915, Christie's 7 July 2016, lot 10; and a Portrait of Florence c.1905 (on the New York art market, 2014)Throughout his career as an artist she provided a source of support and encouragement for her husband.James Jebusa Shannon was knighted in 1923.
