A modern aquamarine and diamond set oval dress ring, with diamond set shoulders, 18ct white gold setting, size J/K, gross 3.5 grams.CONDITION: A few nibbles and some minor wear to the table facet edge of the aquamarine, otherwise in good order. The diaminds are extremely small (chips) and would say of average quality.

Ca. 618-907 AD. Chinese Tang Dynasty Ceramic ‘Fat Lady’ Figure. The figure stands facing forward, with head slightly inclined and hands held gently across her stomach. She wears long-sleeved, loose-hanging robes, and the court dress is embellished with delicately detailed upturned shoes. The original pigmentation is still visible on the figure’s face, dress, and hair. The facial features, such as the eyes, lips, nose, and eyebrows are picked out by delicate painting. An elaborate coiffure crowns the face of the ‘Fat Lady’. Attendant figures such as this item were important to a variety of cultures with afterlife beliefs which involved trials, travels, or an afterlife similar to that which was lived on earth. These figures, which are included as funerary offerings reflect the belief that assistance would be helpful in overcoming the difficult environs of the afterlife. The so called ‘Fat Lady’ was a popular attendant figure during Tang dynasty. During this period as luxurious tastes led to a change in the ideal feminine form, from thin to more buxom body types. C. 3rd millennium BC. Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley. An excellent example of an Indus Valley civilisation bowl, with a truncated conical and flattened base. while the interior of the bowl features a border of black leaves surrounding a central rondel. This central rondel contains a female figure depicted in a hieratic pose (facing the viewer); she wears a carefully textured dress akin to a modern sari and special attention has been paid to her highly detailed shoulder-length hair, which is worn loose. To her left and right are short examples of the Indus Valley written script. The exterior is undecorated. The Indus Valley Civilisation was an important Bronze Age culture which arose in c. 3300 BC and lasted until c. 1300, though its heyday, to which this ceramic vessel belongs, was in the 3rd millennium BC. Representations of mortal women are rare in Indus Valley Civilisation Art, indicating that the individual depicted here is probably a goddess. Cf. N. Satyawadi, 1994. The attendant also sports an elaborate coiffure and carries an object, possibly a fan over her left shoulder. Attendant figures such as this item were important to a variety of cultures with afterlife beliefs which involved trials, travels, or an afterlife similar to that which was lived on earth.
