There are a number of other copies known after the same portrait. These include one by Henry Raeburn at Fyvie Castle; another portrait attributed to a ' follower' of Raeburn at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire; two versions on enamel by Henry Bone RA also exist (one currently at Mount Stuart). There is also an original duplicate of the 1775 portrait in the collection of Lady Carthcart at Cluny Castle, Aberdeenshire.The Reynolds portrait was also engraved by William Dickinson in 1775 and a smaller plate followed in 1796.Jane Maxwell (c.1749-1812) was the wife of the 4th Duke of Gordon. She is depicted wearing a white 'Elizabethan' costume with a miniature on a chain. It has been suggested that her dress might have been worn at a masked Ball given by the French Ambassador in 1773. A similar dress is worn by the Duchess of Devonshire in a miniature by Cosway c.1782 (Royal Collection)The sitter was both a political hostess and a fashionable leader of society both in Edinburgh and London. Described in her own lifetime as 'having an open ruddy countenance, quick in repartee, and no one excelling her in performing the honours of the table, her society is generally courted' (The Female Jockey Club, 1794)

An Italian porcelain figure group of two dancing ladies in crinoline dresses, mid 20th century, each decorated in 18th century style dress with floral encrustations upon a Rococo style base, 18.5 cm high, 23 cm wide. CONDITION REPORT: The left hand figure is missing 40% of the crinoline cuff around her arm. There are further losses to her crinoline dress. The right hand figure also has small losses to the crinoline dress. Both figures are missing a section of crinoline on the rear. The mark is simply inscribed Italy.
A Furstenberg type porcelain figure group, early 20th century, modelled as a gentleman and lady in 19th century dress, the gentleman on one knee, 18.5 cm high, approximately 26 cm wide (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The ribbon tips in the ladies hat have been professionally restored to a high standard. There is a tiny white speck on the tip of the gentleman's right shoe. There is a further small patch on the gentleman's right shoe where the black enamel has not taken to the porcelain just to the right of the bow. The ladies left shoe has been professionally restored to a high standard. Other than those faults mentioned the item appears to be in good decorative order.
A set of four Minton porcelain cabinet plates, second half 19th century, each handpainted and signed by Antonin Bullemier (1840-1900), each depicting a young boy and girl in 18th century style dress within interior and exterior scene backgrounds, all within a gilt pendant border with claret lozenges, printed marks verso and pattern number G5799, diameter 24.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The plate with the image of the girl covering the boys eyes is in good order and rings out nicely when lightly tapped. There is a very fine 1 cm surface scratch approximately 2 cm above their heads which is not instantly obvious. There are no obvious surface scratches within the enamels. The border decoration all appears to be intact and the gilding is good. There are no obvious chips, hairline cracks or restorations. The plate depicting an image of the boy buttoning the girls dress rings out nicely when lightly tapped and the enamels appear to be free from any scratches. The border decoration and gilding is all good and intact. There are no obvious chips, cracks or restorations. The image of the boy and girl picking flowers has a 7 cm hairline crack issuing from the centre left of the rim towards the centre of the plate. The enamels are in good order and free from any scratches. The border decorations gilding are all good. There are no obvious chips or restorations. The plate depicting a young boy holding aloft jewellery appears to be in good order but does not ring out nicely when lightly tapped but gives out a dull thud. Having looked with a torch and a jewellers loupe we can see no major hairline cracks although the whole of the glazing is very finely crazed throughout. The enamel images are good with no obvious scratches although there are one or two very minor surface scratches just above the males head. The border decoration and gilding is good throughout. There appear to be no chips or obvious hairline cracks or restorations.
