A Sitzendorf porcelain figure group as a Shepherd and Shepherdess courtship scene, each in 18th century dress, her with attendant puppy, all decorated in bright enamels heightened in gilt, underglaze blue backstamp verso, circa 1900, h.18cm. Condition report: Appears immaculate and complete. All flowerheads and fingers etc are present.

We would estimate colour at approx. K to M, and clarity at approx. SI2 to I1.No apparent marks to metal.

Glass scratched. The frame lacking eight gems and some of the others chipped. Frame grubby and tarnished. Later loop. Slightly grubby but generally ok - colours perhaps a little faded. Glass grubby, with scratches and wear to the gilt and black detailing throughout. Frame open and with general wear and edge chips. Follower of Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680), Oil on canvas, Portrait of Centenarian Hannah Lowther (1654 - 1757), Inscribed to the middle left of the canvas, 'Mrs Hannah Lowther of Mask - died the 11th of Jan 1757 at 103 years and nine days', with old auction house stencil label verso 'B.H.218 W', 125cm x 100cm, Framed. Although inscribed as 'Mrs' it is likely that Hannah was a Miss. She is believed to be the daughter of Robert Lowther, a Leeds merchant and alderman of London. Her cousin Sir John Lowther has a portrait painted by Lely, a c1684 engraving after Lely can be found in the National Portrait Gallery online archive. Hannah Lowther was a lady in waiting to Queen Anne and her sister Queen Mary, surviving them both to the extraordinary age of 103 in 1757. In the latter part of her life she lived in Scotland Yard. She has the honour of being buried in Rutland Chapel at St Georges Chapel Windsor. There is a discrepancy in regard to the age Hannah lived to, one source states 106, the other 103, sadly no record of her baptism has been found to confirm which is correct. Her relation Sir William Lowther 3rd Bt of Marske and Hooker (1727-1756) left in his will the sum of £1700 a year to his relation (Great Aunt?) Hannah Lowther, and after her to Lord George Cavendish second son of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire. Horace Walpole comments in a letter that it was remarkable that she was left a legacy of £1700 when she was 100 from a man who was 29. Although the frame attributes the painting to Lely, similar compositions of hands, dress and background can be found on portraits by Sir Godfrey Kneller

An album of 19th century pencil sketches completed by Louisa Lady Strange - second wife of Sir Thomas Andrew Lumisden Strange (1756-1841) a chief justice of Nova Scotia Canada, the album begun with a portrait of Lady Strange and followed by ninety five sketches and some colour pictures through Germany, Italy and a few of England dated between 1854 and 1861, they include Castle of Hindelberg, Valley of Neckar, Baden Baden, Florence, Tomb of the Horatii, Lariccia, Subiaco, Tivoli, Naples and Vesuvius, Sorrento, Torquay and a portrait of Casare Prosperi Buzi and other studies od figures in national dress, in one album (1)

THOMAS EDWARD LAWRENCE, CB, DSO (1888-1935) T.E. SHAW LAWRENCE OF ARABIA A ROYAL AIR FORCE SERVICE DRESS CAP owned and worn by T.E. Shaw, Lacking badge and with detached leather bands. Provenance: Fanny Hatcher thence by family descent where purchased by the current vendor It is not every schoolboy that comes home to find, 'One of the greatest beings alive in our time' as Winston Churchill described him, sat quietly in his mother's kitchen making tea. At the time (July 1933) 13-year old Donald Hatcher did not know that the gentleman who rented the upstairs back room of his mother's boarding house was, in fact, every schoolboys' hero, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Initially even Mrs Fanny Hatcher, Donald's mother, had no idea, as she wrote the name T.E Shaw in the guest's register, that the gentleman who would come to be part of the family over the next 18 months was, in fact, the man responsible for uniting the Arab Tribes and taking the port of Aqaba. The taking of the legendary port is still thought to be one of the greatest and most daring military attacks in modern history. Lawrence was hiding from the press and attention from his thousands of fans and admirers from across the globe. His desire was to live a very quiet existence. His first alias John Hume-Ross (which he used in 1922 to join the RAF) had been uncovered by the Daily Express and the publicity had forced him to leave. He then spent many years in safety at Bovington with the Army, later being transferred back to the RAF under the new alias of Shaw. In April 1931 he was assigned to the Scott-Paine yard at Hythe, designing and trialling powerboats, for the purpose of rescuing Aircraftmen who crashed at sea. In 1933 Lawrence took lodgings at 13 Birmingham Street, a small unremarkable terraced house, in Southampton. The 'quiet lodger' was visited by 'all sorts of important people' and Mrs Hatcher, in time, became aware of his true identity. Poor Donald was left in the dark for the time being. Loose lips, even on thirteen-year old boys could still be dangerous. For the entire duration of his stay Donald would simply know him as 'Aircraftman Shaw'. (The only thing Donald knew for certain was that whenever he could not find the cat, she would be in Shaw's room.) As a thank you to young Donald, at the end of his stay Lawrence gifted to him not just the original Arabian Janbiya dagger and Lund & Sons campaign knife, but the very RAF hat he was wearing as he left. Ripping the badge off his cap and placing it on Donald's head, Lawrence made his way back to Cloud's Hill for what would be the final time. This collection of items from 13 Birmingham Street has come to light for the first time after being safeguarded by the Hatcher family for over 80 years. These personal possessions and letters give us a glimpse into Lawrence's private and secret life, his desire to avoid fame and to separate himself from the icon he had become. DEBORAH KERR: A VINTAGE PINK SLEEVELESS COCKTAIL DRESS WITH SILVER FLORAL BROCADE a vintage beige chiffon long sleeve scoop neckline evening dress, both dresses were donated by Deborah Kerr to Lights, Camera, Auction in June 1999 to help raise funds for television station in Topeka, Kansas with certificate of authenticity, a brown coat of wool with large cuffs, large button with interior label, M. Berman Esq, 18 Green St, Leicester Sq., WC2, inscribed Miss Kerr, the coat was worn in a production, 1950-60s, a book entitled Bonjour Tristesse, 1955, the inside cover signed and dedicated by Deborah Kerr and further signed by members of the principle cast including David Niven with ink drawing possibly by Kerr or Niven, the book presented to May Walding (Wardrobe Dept) and an original bathing costume design, for Kerr's character Lee Ashley in Proud and Profane, the reverse with approval signatures, framed and glazed Condition Report: Available upon request
