A quantity of military ephemera relating to The Late WJN Cheatle, Lieutenant, 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, killed in action at The Dordinelles 26th April 1915 aged 27, to include a black and white photograph in ceremonial dress and sword, Mess red tunic with brass buttons and stitched collars, braided epaulettes, tartan trousers and maroon sash, a further tunic in red with blue collars and epaulettes with five KOSB regimental brass buttons, a George V King's Own Scottish Borderer's sword with steel grooved blade, snakeskin wire bound grip in scabbard with pierced knuckleguard by John Jones & Co. of Regent Street, London, a King's Own Scottish Borderer's silkwork panel worked in colours depicting two flags with Campaign Honours and coronet with lion rampant thistles, a King's Own Scottish Borderer's shoulder belt plate, photograph album with black and white regimental photographs and two photographs of a young boy (probably a young WJ Cheatle), photographs of Gallipoli, together with newspaper obituary notice, Syrian geographical map printed by The Survey of Egypt, Under Authority from The War Office, 22nd Jan 1917, General Staff No. 2321, military and naval pamphlets, two leather and white metal mounted scabbards, flag, leather bound water canister, belt and clothing contained in tin trunk inscribed "WJ Cheatle 1st KOSB" CONDITION REPORTS All items in used and worn condition and with some losses. Photo album, maps and booklets all with some discolouration, foxing, wear and tears to edges. Textiles with dirt, fading and stains, and some deterioration to silk hangings. Some knocks and tarnish to sword and to scabbards. Please see photos for examples, and detail. The sword blade bears a crown to one side and a castle emblem to the other side (both with wear), the edges of the blade are worn, and the inscription to the castle-emblem-decorated side is therefore partly worn away so that inscription now reads "THE", "....GS OW...." "....OTTISH..." "...DERER..." "....GYPT....".

Yours sincerely Montgomery of Alamein", various typed written correspondence to Lord Montgomery from Miss Baird (Honorary Secretary South Africa Club), together with three photograph albums depicting black and white photographs of views in South Africa to include Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Good Hope, Chapman's Peak, Table Mountain, which also includes five black and white naval photographs, two inscribed "Entering Montevideo Dec 1940", the other "HMS Canarvon Castle Dec 7th 1940 Entering Montevideo", two signed M Hardy, the other depicting naval officer at salute and signed "Johny, 8/12/40"
