19th century BC. A black limestone cylinder seal with suppliant goddess standing in long dress with raised hands behind a worshipper, who approaches a seated king; the king wearing a round cap and holding a cup; star and crescent above; followed by a two line inscription. An Isin/Larsa Early Old Babylonian cylinder seal with presentation scene, the suppliant goddess Lama in a flounced robe, with necklace counter-weight and with a multiple-horned head-dress, stands with both hands raised behind the clean-shaven worshipper who wears a fringed robe, with hands clasped; both of them face a seated deified king wearing a round cap and holding a cup in his right hand; star-disc and crescent.; there is a base-line beneath the scene; the seal inscription: 1 Nu-úr-ì-lí „N?r-il?, 2 DUMU Be-lí-ma son of B?l?ma“ Translation of these Akkadian names: N?r-il? A light is my God; B?l?ma He (God) is my master. Cf. Collon, Dominique Catalogue of the Western Asiatic Seals in the British Museum. Cylinder Seals III: Isin-Larsa and Old Babylonian Periods, London, 1986, pls.VII-IX. 15.8 grams, 27.9mm (1"). Property of a respected gentleman, from his private collection formed 1965-2018. “Head Dress of Imperial Germany 1880-1916” by Paul Sanders, a Schiffer Military History publication 2001, consisting entirely of full page colour illustrations of Hussar busbies, Grenadier caps, pickelbaubes, shakos, Jager and Cuirassier helmets, etc; also “Helmets of the First World War, Germany, Britain & their allies”, by Haselgrove & Radovic, also by Schiffer, 2000, profusely illustrated in colour and with contemporary photographs of the helmets being worn. Both new condition with DWs. (2)
A 19th century continental naval officer’s dress sword, plain shallow diamond section blade 28”, gilt brass hilt with double shell guard the front fixed and embossed with crowned fouled anchor on trophy of flag and foliage, the back hinged and plain, oak leaf panelled knucklebow, and pommel, wirebound (loose) wooden grip, with knot, in its leather scabbard (old repair to centre), with plain brass locket and foliate engraved chape. GC, the hilt retaining approx 40% gilt.
A Geo V RN officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade 31½”, no 02063 on backstrap, etched with crowned GVR cypher in scrolled frosted panels on one side and crowned fouled anchor in similar panels on the other, regulation brass hilt with traces of gilt, incorporating crowned fouled anchor and with turned down inner portion (which locks to scabbard) engraved with owner’s name “A. Greenhaugh RN”, lion’s head pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound white grip, with dress knot in its brown mounted black leather scabbard with 2 rings. GC Plate 5
A collection of German Musical boxes. Created by and/or in the style of the well known modeller Steinbach. Items include dancing cherubs, grandmother reading to children, and mother with baby in perambulator. Individual figures include boy with large apples in a wheel-barrow, milk-maid with bowl and girls in traditional dress, holding large flowers. Included are a number of Scottish terriers sheltering under umbrellas. QGC-GC, some age wear and a few parts damaged. Mechanisms require attention. (23) £70-90
