A carnelian cylinder seal with antithetical scene consisting: in the centre, of a winged disc, symbol of the sun god Šamaš, with streamers above a stylised sacred tree, flanked by a god on the left and a worshipper on the right; the bearded warrior god, probably Ninurta, wearing a square, star-topped, horned head-dress, and a tiered, striated, open robe over a fringed kilt, with a sword at his waist and crossed star-tipped bow-cases on his back, stands facing right on a dais, with his left hand raised, and the other extended; over his head the crescent as the symbol of the moon God Sîn; the stylised tree is a palm with eight branches on a base with two crossed diagonals on either side, through whose intersections a horizontal line crosses the trunk, set on a dais of two horizontal lines; the beardless worshipper in a fringed robe stands facing left, points with his raised left hand and extends the other palm up; left over his head are the Pleiades, on the right a big star, the symbol of the goddess Ištar.; between the backs of the two worshippers stands the tasselled spade of the god Marduk on a dais of two lines; line borders top and bottom. A suite of dress items from a female grave with museum display backing and card, comprising: two applied saucer brooches, each gilt bronze with central knop and band of Style I decoration, catch and pin-lug to the reverse; two bronze openwork disc brooches, each with T-shaped voids and stamped triangle detailing, pin-lug and catch to the reverse; ten large and seventy-five small globular amber beads; six glass beads of globular and cylindrical types; the footplate from a bronze small-long brooch with pelta-shaped foot, catch to the reverse; two bronze rings, one with break; a bronze dress-pin with flattened and pierced finial; a pair of bronze tweezers with grooved outer faces. See MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E. A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections (Non-Ferrous Metals), Oxford, 1993. Reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme under reference WAW-DB4534. 488 grams total including packaging, saucer brooches: 63mm each (2 1/2"). Found South Worcestershire, UK; in the 1980s. The presence of disc and saucer brooches in a single grave assemblage is not unprecedented, especially in some Anglian areas. The foot of the small-long brooch may have been an intrusion from a neighbouring burial, or possibly a curated item - a keepsake carried in a pouch, for example. Tweezers, pins and other items are a routine find in many female burials in the pre-Christian period. [101] Fine condition.

A substantial discoid lapis lazuli head for a dress pin with incised guilloche to the rim, reserved kneeling figure to one face with right hand raised, braided hair, similar figure to the reverse with long flowing hair, bare-chested with patterned skirt; remains of bronze pin; mounted on a custom-made stand. 122 grams, 74mm including stand (3"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired London art market, 1970-1980. Fine condition. Rare.

Otherwise condition good for age with only minor wear and tear.

VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Modern fastenings have been put into butterfly patterned garments, plastic side zip in dress and poppers down the back of the top (the buttons have been left on but no button holes). Top is handmade possibly out of something else as hand stitched in some places and machine stitched in other places. White and black dress has stains on it, particularly around the underarms . Collection of vintage dresses (40's-60's), to include: dark brown check empire line dress, a cream and brown floral pattern linen dress, floral dress with tiered skirt, pink and white striped dress with bow, red, grey and green floral linen belted dress, Horrockses fashions cotton purple and white pear print summer dress with matching bolero and a grey and white patterned belted 50's dress. (7) (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Horrockses - small brown stain to collar of bolero, dress - brown stain, on skirt discolouration of straps and at top of bodice. Fabric slightly faded but otherwise good. May have originally had belt. Empire line dress - good, bit crumpled. Floral pattern linen dress - staining on inside of collar and underarms. 1 fastening broken/missing, otherwise good. Tiered skirt dress - generally good, minor staining at collar/underarms. Looks like it originally had belt. Slight discolouration to back. Pink stripy dress - missing belt. Crumpled, good, no obvious damage. Floral multicolour dress generally good. Slight discolouration to back. Grey dress - good, no obvious damage.
