Continental School, 19th centuryPortrait of an officer, half-length, in dress uniformoil on canvas26.5 x 22cmCondition Reportoverall: 36.5 x 32.8cmThe painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which is unlined. An old damage has been repaired from the reverse with a canvas patch which is evident in the texture of the paint layer. The background has an uneven surface texture formed as the paint layer has dried. There are numerous small deformations and impact knocks to the surface. Overall the paint layer is currently stable. There are touches of overpaint present across the surface which are matte in appearance. The varnish is glossy and clear.
An 18ct gold and three stone diamond dress ring, with three round brilliant cut diamonds, the central stone, 5.4mm x 5.4mm x 2.4mm, totalling approx 0.44ct, flanked by two smaller stones, each 4.2mm x 4.2mm x 3.4mm, each totalling approx 0.27ct, in a double claw white gold setting, on a yellow metal band, ring size O½, 4.1g all in, boxed.
